It's the same here in Australia with our history lessons. The time when England started settling here (or sending convicts here to free up prisons ) was a pretty gruesome time, and alot of it is skipped over in history until you get to the more senior years of high school. I get annoyed about it as well.
Today I learned there is an awful lot more useless crap hiding in my bedroom than I thought. I've been packing to move and I think I've bagged almost as much rubbish as packed things I'll be taking. It's amazing how much stuff you can collect in ayear.

I think it is the same with history lessons evrywhere! And it makes me so mad, too! But anyway... Today I learned that when giving an oral presentation or a class it's not too good to think about how you are doing. That, and that it's not good when you forget you backpack at home.

Today I learned that when giving an oral presentation or a class it's not too good to think about how you are doing. Just to comment slightly on that, I agree completely with you. I had to give a speech last week, and all day(I was to say it in the evening) I refused to say it out loud in front of anyone, even my advisor. I felt that if you keep thinking that it just has to come right, it only builds up tension in you and you'll end up saying it wrong.
That and beware of mal-functioning microphones. The one I was using started screaming half-way through my speech. At least I didn't freak out(something which would have been very typical of me ).

Bleh, I totally freaked out... I must have mouthed the words "this sucks, I ruined it" at least 4 times to my friend... and in the end, everyone thought it was great. I just didn't like it because I forgot parts and stuff, but it wasn't that bad. Today I learned that when you skip a history class, like I did last friday, and then you have a quiz on 2 weeks worth of material that class you missed might've been important. And I also learned that when people get stressed their jaws might stick, because it happened to a classmate and they told her it was stress. I hope MY jaw never sticks.... she can't even eat properly.

Jaw sticking when you're stressed? Yeah, I can see that happening. I have a list of ailments that come along as I get progressively more stressed. It starts with chronic headaches, then chronic neaseau, a rash, some hair loss, and then throwing up. It happens whenever I have a lot of work due, or some weird personal situation, or exams... which is at least once a month. (I wish I were kidding)
Today I finally had an epiphany about how to use GK Taus. Thankfully this was just in time for the final, but unfourtantly too late for the midterm

*has no idea what GK Taus is, but is glad nonetheless the epiphany came* Today I learned I might skip 2 - 3 subjects in uni and not one as I initially thought. Oh, and I *know* you're not kidding. When I'm stressed I get nauseated... and I somatize everything if I'm too stressed, so if I'm having an especially bad.... I wish I could say day... hour or something I end up with a bad stomachache and maybe throwing up. Not fun. I also learned that more than one person is actually able to read my eyes.

*wishes she didn't have to know what GK Tau is*
What do you mean "might skip"? How?
Today I learrrrrnnnnnned... hm. Well. I just kinda woke up. I haven't learned much. I learned I can sleep til 2:30pm even when it's ridiculously bright in my bedroom?
*edit* OMG - I just realized that you're going to University next year! *sniff* My little Nancy's all grown up!
*editedit* Correction: today I learned that the best way to bring up your energy after you've been studying too long is to have a solo dance party in your room. That's right. I said it. Solo dance party. Try it, it's fabulous

By skip I meant that some of my high school subjetcs are equivalent to some classes I'd have to take in uni, but since I took them already, if I pass with a certain grade I won't have to take them... I'll probably only get that for one anyway, because the other ones are related to my Lit grade. Yeah, I'm all grown up. I'm even legal. (which is strange that I brag about since I don't drink. except sips out of my friends' cups, sometimes. which is even funnier because many of them are not legal and they buy the drinks.) I can't believe you're like, 20, and you'd never had a solo dance party in your room to bring up your energy. And I can't believe you were actually able to sleep until 2:30 pm. I don't think I've learned anything today. It's been a terribly futile day. But I only just realized that exams start in less tham a month... Oh yeah, I learned that when they advertise an mp3 player as having batteries that last for 15 hours of continous playback that means no picking songs, changing them, going back, skipping forward...

I learned today that when trying to pull and display infomation from a database in a VB6 project, one needs to use the formatcurrency() function in order to display things like dollar signs, commas and decimal points, otherwise it prints out a string of numbers.
I also learned that if I get my Swiss passport and go to Switzerland I'll likely be recruited for mandatory military service.

Mandatory military service? In Switzerland? That sounds really sucky. But the chocolate and the scenery would be good. Would you have to revoke your Aussie citizenship though?
I learnt that if I am constantly working on various projects at the same time with deadlines all in the same week I'll get a headache and learn to enjoy camping out in my office and sleeping on my couch. Plus I'm recovering from alcohol poisoning. Such are the costs of being a workaholic.

I learned that when the forecast says thirty percent chance of rain it probably won't rain. What else did I learn? I learned that stopping for a smoothie before class can make me late.
I don’t think I learned much else, except for the type of car one of my professor’s drives.
Speaking of Switzerland, I can't seem to find their new commercial online. Apparently it's aimed at women who would rather vacation than watch the World Cup.

I learned that I *still* don't like coffee and should probably stop trying it to see if I like it. I also learned that at the graduation ceremony, students who took an honors class traditionally wear a golden pin apart from the pins that distinguish bilingual, bicultural, and vocational students.... and I learned that we IB kids will be graduating with "full honors" and get to wear two golden pins... I like silver better though. That, and how to connect a circuit so that little LEDs will intermitently light up.... oh, and how a yes/no computer circuit works, and I *built* one, all by myself because my electronics team mates were talking about this guy I don't know at that point in the class... It was awesome! So binary...

Mandatory military service? In Switzerland? That sounds really sucky. But the chocolate and the scenery would be good. Would you have to revoke your Aussie citizenship though? No, because I was born in Australia I'd be able to have dual citizenship which is the big bonus. I'd be able to go live anywhere in the UK and Europe and be able to work without having to apply for a working visa. They keep cutting down how many of those you're allowed to apply for. It only up to a certain age that I can be recruited for military service too, so if I get the passport, but steer clear of Switzerland until then I'll be OK. ;D
Today I learned that human have a 50/50 chance of getting a brain parasite called Toxoplasma at some point in your life. It's a parasite that preferes to infect cats so it can then infect rats. When rats are infected it makes changes to their brain so that instead of running away from anything that smells like cat, they get curious and try to track down the source of the smell. They'll psend hours doing it and end up fidning a cat, which eats them, then continues the spread of the parasite.
The parasite can't actually reproduce in the human brain, whihc is another reason it likes to live in cats. But we also aren't exactly sure what Toxoplasma does to the human brain. It certainly doen't do anything quite as dramatic to humans as it does to rats.
Researchers discovered that when comparing the behaviour of people who were inected with the brain parasite to those who weren't, men who were infected didn't shave as often, didn't wear ties as often, and didn't follow the rules as much. Women who were infected spend lots of money on clothes, tend to be surrounded by more friends, and are in general more attractive than women not infected with Toxoplasma.
In contrast, people without Toxoplasma are more likely to follow the rules. If you lend them money, they're more likely to pay you back. They show up for work on time. The men get into fewer fights. The women have fewer boyfriends.
I just found it interesting. I wonder if they'll find anything more definate on how Toxoplasma affects the human brain.

What did I learn today? That time-management is of the extreme importance. I know people who manage like 7 different things at a time from several different jobs, to practising hobbies & sport including minding to their family.
And me? I need to take a leaf out of these people's books. So why are you online right now you may ask? Perhaps I may need more than one leaf...
