Minutes later, the group was in Diagon Alley. Fox looked around wide-eyed. She was speechless. She wanted to see everything, she wanted to ask so many questions… but Abby hurried along. Chris stopped abruptly and Abby looked at him, irritated.
"Abby, this is ridiculous! Why are you running like this?"
"You know very well why, Chris..." She gave a sidelong glance toward Fox.
Chris threw his arms up and stalked off; Abby turned and did the same. Now very confused, Fox followed her into a nearby store. She caught up to her at the counter. This was a wand shop.
"Abby?" Even though there was nobody else there, Fox spoke very softly. "What happened? What is it that bothers you so?"
Abby sighed deeply, not meeting the elf's gaze. "It's that guy, Malfoy." She hissed. "I'm just not in a hurry for you to meet him. He's just so--"
"Ah! Good afternoon!" said a soft voice.

Abby turned sharply and smiled at the man behind the counter. He was an old man and had an almost dusty look to him. He matched the store. The walls were hardly visible amidst the countless boxed that lined them.
"Good afternoon," said the voice again.
Fox nodded her head and extended a hand. "Hello! I'm Fox Birch of Mirkwood! Elen sila lumenn' omentielvo..."
The man raises an eyebrow and regarded her with a strange sort of look that Fox recognized as mild animosity. She frowned and withdrew her hand. Abby cleared her throat loudly.
"Excuse me, Mr. Ollivander... this is my friend... and we would like to buy some wands for school."
He looked even more amused and even let out a chuckle.
"An elf?? From Mirkwood?? Going to Hogwarts? That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard!" He smiled and, to the annoyance of Abby, laughed loudly. "A waste of money, if you ask me...!" He continued laughing. But Fox stood, a look of mixed emotions on her face. Abby glanced at her and opened her mouth slightly... but wasn't sure what to say.
When the shopkeeper had stopped laughing, he wiped his glasses on his dusty tie and put them back on his long nose. He looked at Abby.
"Now then, I assume you will be paying..."

"How did you know--"
Abby cut her off. "Yes, as a matter of fact, i will. Unless you'd rather i went somwhere else..." She turned toward the door.
Ollivander swung out from behind the counter to stop them, a grin still on his face. "No, please. I'll be happy to help you find the right wand."
Abby raised an eyebrow and the man's lip twitched.
"And her too..."
She smiled sweetly and hopped back up to the counter. He sneered and went to the back, looking through the boxes on the wall. Abby turned to Fox and sighed softly and was about to speak when the elf beat her to it.
"How does he know about Mirkwood?"
Abby shook her head. "I don't know... not many do... listen, i know you're probably thinking he doesn't like you, but that's not true. He's just--"
"Here we go." Ollivander set the small box on the counter and carefully pulled off the lid. Abby motioned for Fox to take it, but the shopkeeper slammed the lid back on. "This one is not suited for you, elf."

[glow=forestgreen,2,300]NYA~!! i just had this big long part to this story and wallace froze up before i could save it! -_- woo woo... *tear* here is my attempt at re-writing it...[/glow]
Abby glared.
The man's lip twitched and he took his hand from the narrow box... slowly. He attended to the girls reluctantly. When they had received their respective wands, they smiled, payed and turned for the door. Fox reached out to open it when is was swung toward her from the outside, causing the elf to jump back quickly. She stared at the pale boy curiously. He stared back, his cold eyes narrowing as he looked her up and down. Before she had a chance to say anything, Abby grabbed her hand and left the shop.
* * *
The morning was absolutely stunning. The sun rose in all it's bright orange glory, chasing the last of the gray haze from the endlessly blue sky. Soft, pink clouds dotted the beautiful perfection above... and Fox watched the world wake from a balcony at the Leaky Cauldron. It had been only a pair of days since they finished their shopping.
The bells of a large, familiar clock rang in the distance and the elf hopped silenlty back into the room. She stood bent over Abby, who still slept soundly. Fox watched her as the bells rang several more times, then faded altogether. She looked at Abby, the only sound in the room now was that of her soft breathing; she tilted her head as her friend's lips curled into a smile. There was a knock at the door and Abby woke with a start.
"Ack!"
"ACK!" She tumbled from her bed.
"Hello!"
There was another knock.
"ACK!!"
Abby jumped from the ground, untangling herself from the sheets, her hair and clothes quite disshelved and opened the door a bit. A man stood just outside.
"Good morning, Miss! You asked me to wake you when it was time to leave for the train... it will depart in about an hour. Your car is waiting outside." With that, he shut the door, not giving Abby a chance to thank him. She turned to Fox, Who sat, blinking on the bed.
Abby smiled. "How long have you been up?"
"What were you dreaming?"
She stared. "What?"
"What is it you dreamed about?"
Abby put her hands on her hips and smiled. "Don't you try to change the subject on me, Foxila... but if you must know, i was dreaming about Oliver." She made her way to the bed and began throwing the sheets messily on the matress. "So? How long have you been awake?"
Fox smiled. "Only a few hours."
Abby shook her head and headed for the bathroom. After her usual morning shriek, she called out to the elf. "Hey, you'd better get packed... we gotta go real soon..."
Fox looked over at their trunks. Hers was already neatly packed and ready to go... she decided to help Abby with hers. Just as Fox was closing Abby's trunk, the girl emerged from the bathroom, looking her usual, radiant, daytime self.
"Okay then! Let's get going or we'll miss our train!"

Once the girls had lugged their trunks down the narrow staircase and out to the sidewalk, Fox was staring intently at the car parked before them. It was larger than any horse the elf had ever seen... and the color of a highly polished eggplant. She was too enthrolled in the black circles the car seemed to be resting on to notice that a man had emerged and had already placed both her and Abby's luggage in the trunk. He opened the door and the two stepped in, Fox in the rear.
Inside, Fox admired the handle of the door and the button that retracted as soon as the driver has resumed his own position in the front seat. She found a second button... this one was larger and rectangular with one side slightly higher than the other. She pushed it causiously and was suddenly struck with a very strong wind from a new opening in the door. She jerked back into a laughing Abby, who patted her shoulder comfortingly.
"It's okay, Foxy... it's just the window. You want me to close it?"
Fox shook her head and neared the window again. The wind felt good on her face... it reminded her of riding and she began to miss her friend, Eldoras. The elf watched countless buildings and people fly by the car and, before long, they had arrived at King's Cross.

By this time, Fox was almost bursting with curiosity. She looked at everyone and everything, laughing at the most usual sights.
"Look Abby! That little boy is trying to ride on it!"
Indeed, there was a small wizard boy trying to ride a broom as if it were a horse. Fox giggled.
"Do you think he realizes that it has no feet?"
Abby simply smiled. She figured that the elf had no previous knowledge of flying broomsticks or, much less, the game of quidditch... but she would soon. The thought had struck her that with her quick reflexes, keen elven senses, and stubborn attitude, she would have a good chance at being on her house team. Her thought drifted then to her darling Oliver.

[glow=darkgreen,2,300]woo hoo! i'm on a roll! [/glow] * * * Minutes later, the two girls had their trunks on trollies and were stopped in front of a wall. Fox looked around curiously, then inched closer to Abby. "What are we doing?" "Waiting... only for a moment. There are too many muggles about just this second." Fox nodded and waited right along with her. After a few minutes during which Abby pretended to muse over Fox's tunic, she nodded toward the barrier. "Come on, then. Let's go." Fox looked surprised. "Where?" Abby rolled her eyes. "The barrier, of course." Fox's jaw dropped. "What...?" "Follow my lead, yes?" And with that, Abby ran toward and through the barrier! Fox looked around then, after much hesitation, followed Abby's example. She closed her eyes just as she was about to collide with the brick wall... but didn't. She opened her eyes and saw Abby standing, also unharmed, in front of her. "Come on! Before all the spots are taken!" The two took their trunks onto the train just as the doors closed and began to lurch forward.

Once on the train, Fox and Abby shuffled to the back to find an empty compartment, the former taking a moment to set her bow leaning against the wall. With a sigh, the two find a seat and exchange relieved looks.
"We almost missed it," Abby pointed out.
"I apologize... I don't believe I've ever had to walk through a wall before and thought it quite impossible." She smiled. "It won't happen again."
Abby laughed at the elf's formality and raised her feet next to Fox's seat and looked out the window thoughtfully. She had an almost unreadable expression, to which Fox had to ask, "what are you thinking?"
It was a moment before Abby answered.
"I was just... reflecting. I admit I just don't know what to think of you."
This was the last thing she expected. "What is it you mean?"
She continued looking out the window, apparently still choosing her words. "Well, like, i'm not even entirely sure... maybe it's the realization that i know hardly anything about you and yet, when i htink about it, I'm sure this is gonna be a very interesting year." Satisfied, she turned back to her window.
Fox sit silently, expection an explaination that was not to come, and, instead, thought to herself.
Well, I suppose I know what she means... after all, I know I'm more than a bit excited... She felt a pang of guilt. But then... I know i shouldn't be... this is everything my mother warned me against... She looked at Abby. Surely people can't be as bad as she thought... after all, she loved Father... Fox... and it is, after all my fault they are no more... Fox, and what of your kindred? you left them all without a word... Fox--
"Fox...? You okay?"
She looked up suddenly and nodded. "Yes, I'm fine."
"You want anything off the trolly, dear?" said a women in the aisle.
Fox shook her head. "No, thank you."
Abby proceeded in placing her own order. When the old witch had left, she looked at her friend with concern. "You sure you're alright? You look kinda... iffy. Is it your shoulder? Or-- you need more bandages? We can get some from someone on the train... You wanna go to the bathroom or something?"
"No, really. I'm fine." She didn't want to spill her troubles onto the poor girl. But Abby didn't seem convinced. Far from pushing the matter, she instead offered her a small item from her lap.
"Chocolate frog?"
Fox stared. "You have a frog in there...?"
Abby rolled her eyes, but couldn't help but smile. "Sort of... it's not real... it's chocolate. Like your milk? Remember?"
The elf's jaw dropped in horror. "Abby! It'll drown!"
Abby burst out into laughter and the shocked Fox struggled to free the frog from it's confinements. Unopn successfully openning the box, she started blankly at the frog. It was an unnatural brown and didn't smell like a frog and was totally devoid, she noticed, of anything resembling chocolate milk.
