I've always imagined the Stone Table as a real "stone table", but only in the first book. When we go back there later, its been made into, what I can only imagine, as a Stonehedge-like fortress. *goes to her shelf and takes out the set* I think I need to read these again!

*just finished Dawn Treader*
By Caspian's time they had built a hill over the Stone Table with loads of rooms walled with painted or formed tiles showing different animals. I can't remember what that makes me think of, but I'd just like to point out that whenever CSL names more than one animal, there are usually snakes, birds, and small mammals and then some other mammal.
Also, I think we should name our house mascot "Trufflehunter" in honour of that most Hufflepuffly of badgers, who is a character in Prince Caspian.
heh... Koko called them "menhirs." Koko, you rock my scarf ;D

Cal, there's actually an order to them- the numbers on the spine correspond to what number the book is in the chronicles- but the first one I read was the Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. I think that's the most well-known one, so you might as well start with that, and then start from the first one and read through them all. So- in order, they are: 1. The Magician's Nephew 2. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe 3. The Horse and his Boy (my favourite!!) 4. Prince Caspian 5. The voyage of the "Dawn Treader" 6. The Silver Chair 7. The Last Battle
If you want to read more about them and stuff, there's a pretty good index on the official website here.

*panicked, looks around her for help*
Wait just one darned minute! I didn't know there was another order in which to read these books! I've always read them in the order KoNeko describes above, beginning with the Magician's Nephew.
*wondering how she could have missed something important like that*
I guess it doesn't matter, really. I love these books... ;D

*chuckles* Am I that old, that I got a set of books numbered in publication order and they just hadn't got permission to print them in a different order yet?
I still think The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is the best one to start with, but then, that's the book that really serves as the "gospels" of Narnia, and I think it was a pretty good idea for the missionaries from Ireland to carry around the four gospels rather than the entire christian holy book in the 8th-12th centuries... much more efficient way of introducing and getting across the basic idea behind christianity...

*chuckles* Am I that old, that I got a set of books numbered in publication order and they just hadn't got permission to print them in a different order yet? Do you really want us to answer that En? I just started on The Magician's Nephew today, I'm about half way through it. It's interesting so far, but I think I might like The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe better...but I probably shouldn't make any decisions like that until I'm finished with it, no? I'm reading them in number order first...then maybe next time publication order. My friend has never read them either so we decided to read them at the same time so we have somebody to talk about the books with, ya know? Anyway... Is there one book that stands out as "the best" from the others?

As with all questions like this, I guess it's totally subjective, but I actually really like 'The Horse and His Boy'. My second favourite would be 'The Voyage of the Dawn Treader'.
But I hope you enjoy them all - they're gems of books.

Yay! Another "Horse and his boy" fan! ;D Hmmm, the order I got those in was the chronological one according to the order the events happened, not the order in which the books were published. I think the website had like, a Narnian timeline or something on it to show when everything happens.

*thinks*
Y'know, there's a good idea. I must check out that website. I guess chronologically, though, 'The Magician's Nephew' is kinda first in line. Kinda?
And yeah! I love 'The Horse and his Boy'! It's great. ;D I love the whole interplay between Hwin and Bree, so like a knight and a lady. It tickles my sense of humour.

Did they make movies for each of the films ((Except the Magician's Nephew)) a long time ago? Down at our video store, they have 'Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe' as a movie, and I thought there were others. Are they they things you're talking about En? Anyhoo, they stunk as well
'The Magician's Nephew' and 'The Horse and his Boy' would have to be my favourites. And 'The Silverchair'. It always reminds me of the band

okay, okay--I*m going to buy the first one tomorrow (whoops--Friday--don*t work again til then)and check it out--I*ve never read any of them.
did have a strange woman this morning who wanted LWW but could only find the "narnia chronicles"--she wanted the "real" book..... I tried to tell her it was one of a series, but she wouldn*t believe me, so I found her the book with a CD and it didn*t say Narnia chronicles on the cover--simply Narnia and she was satisfied with that.. go figure.

Hey cool, going to have to see it.
I don’t like in the end how Susan (was it Susan?) grew out of it. I mean I just find it sad.... dunno about everyone else.
I loved the Chronicles. Well still do.
I think I liked The Magician’s Nephew the best. I’ll have to re-read the books though to give valid reasons. Didn’t quite like the Silver Chair that much, I can remember that.
