I know its still very early on, but I think we should brace ourselves for the obvious cutting of scenes. They clearly cant get everything in, and I seriously doubt that there is enough in the books to make two films.... So, list what scenes you expect to be cut.... I personally think the Knight Bus scene will be cut, or very shortened, keeping the tradition of skipping scenes that could be important to future plots, (Peeves for example...). Only one quidditch match will be made, as per usual, presumably the one where Harry falls off his broom. I have more ideas, but don't wanna do everything....So what do you think will be cut..

I think they'll drastically shorten the first four chapters, as they have to do with his home life, the knight bus, and buying his school supplies, although I hope they do not cut out the Death Omen part, although they might...but I hope not. I'm always upset when they cut the scenes, but I guess you have to expect that, and now even more so since her books are becoming longer.

they can't cut out all the weird stuff with the time turner but i bet a lot of that will go. and some of the anti-dementor lesson stuff. they can't cut the boggart scene because that sets the whole tone and is the first clue about lupin. they will probably cut out most of hagrid's lessons except the one with the hippogryph and a lot of the crookshanks/scabbers stuff. probably a lot of divination will get cut too. not that i mind that part. i'd have fallen asleep in that room too.

I do agree that they'll probably cut a lot of divination, but I do think they'll want to give a clear picture of who Sibyll Trelawney is because of the role she plays in GoF, especially the deal with her prediction. Plus, there's gotta be more to her story and why she keeps her room the way she does so we'll probably get a good view of her surroundings.

I agree with you in them shortening the first four chapters because if we really look at it, it's what they did in "Chamber Of Secrets". We're gonna see very little of Aunt Marge except the blowing up part... you know what? I think they'll shorten it so much that in the movie Harry's going to blow her up the same day she arrives.
They can't cut the Death Omen part because that's a little bit essential. I guess.
One of the reasons they cutted and skipped so many funny and simbolic stuff in "Chamber Of Secrets" was that the book had too many action and they wanted to go "straight to the thing" if you get my point. But with "Prisoner Of Azkaban" they won't have much action there. PoA is a much more calm book, no big frights, no nothing. That's why I think they're gonna follow the storyline much more closely than what they've done by far.
We can't forget that the director's not Chris Columbus anymore either And that perhaps Columbus was the one who told the writer to skip the nasty scenes and go straight to the action and stuff. My hopes are really high that this Alfonso Cuarón makes a much more "close to the heart" movie. Show us things from a different angle. From my angle. Columbus really was a disappointment. I mean, "Chamber Of Secrets"? Blech And I really like what Cuarón did in "The Little Princess". Very touchy movie. I think he's going to illustrate the final chapters really really well.
I hope they don't skip Divination much because I tottaly adore that woman. I mean she's so...idiotic yet delightful. She totally portraits my opinion about Seers I hate and love Trelawney at the same time. Plus you have to admit that Ron is 100% in her classes. "This is easy. There'll be a lot of fog tonight" Perfect.
They prolly skip the Leaky Cauldron / Diagon Alley bits since nothing special happens there. They'll just give some credits to Mr and Mrs Weasley conversations and that's all.
I agree with you Loz, there'll only be a Quidditch match but I do believe that it's against Slytherin. It's always against Slytherin. Unless... unless that they don't follow the book and make Gryffindor play against Slytherin the day Harry falls off the broom. That would be predictable. Or they'll make two Quidditch matches. That'd be awesome.

Actually, I agree there....there HAS to be two Quidditch games. The one against Hufflepuff is important, IMO, as it introduces Cedric, and shows us Harry's problem with the Dementors. Yet it's against Slytherin they win the cup. So maybe we get treated this time...
I also think that the entire Marge thing will be cut, and he'll end up blowing up Dudley or Vernon...an extra character/actor just for a couple of scenes at the start is not gonna be worth it really....

I don't think they'll bother introducing Cedric. I think they'll only introduce him in the next book or so... Believe me, they're not gonna bother with that. The only visible reason for two Quidditch matches are the dementors in the first one and Gryffindor's victory in the last one. Just that.
And I guess there'll be Aunt Marge. If there's not gonna be any Aunt Marge in the thing, I'll get really disappointed with the screenplay writer (blergh, can't remember the name). I mean, is he writing a whole new book or what? He doesn't follow the lines/story line from the originals at all.

I hope that we do get introduced to Cedric because if they introduce him in the next book its going to be the bit before he dies or the quidditch cup. I hope they include the qudditch matches. The writer does follow the story lines but he cuts an awful lot out of the book and personally in the fourth book i think there is enough there to make two movies

The Quidditch games are great, but like a lot of you said, they take up too much time so most of them will be cut. They'll probably just end up with a Hufflepuff-Gryffindor match, then, in order to introduce Cedric.
I also think they'll get rid of most of the boggart lesson. They'll just have enough to show the effect of boggarts, and maybe that little clue that Lupin is a werewolf, but that's it.
Ooh, two movies for book four...I like the way you think, Natz! Except I don't think I would be able to wait and see them separately.

I think that they would have to keep the boggart lesson in because it shows lupins kind towards nevile and it gives us a clue that he is a werewolf which would go towards him leaving hogwarts at the end of the book
Prisoner of azkaban is my favourite book as well out of the four of them ;D
Maybe the fourth book will be a movie marathon a whole 24 hours of harry potter ;D

Maybe the fourth book will be a movie marathon a whole 24 hours of harry potter ;D nah, they will make it into two movies, i heard somewhere that the first part will be rellisted on november 2005, and the 2nd part aroud christmas as to the sceens that will be cut, i reckon that the divination will be cut to one or two lessons, and the DADA lessons will be cut exept for the bogart, but i do think that we'll get two quidich matches

So, now we can talk on the GOF scenes which can be cut. The movie won't be the 4 hours or 2 movies it was assumed to in the beginning. So, of course, there must be some scenes which have to be omitted.
I think maybe they could focus less on the classes, except Moody's of course, and maybe the part where Harry learns all the spells in the Transfiguration classroom. They're not that important. What else?

I think SPEW could be left aside. I know you'll be angry for this, but you know, as long as we know Hermione stands for elf's rights, we don't need the badges nor anything else. They could make her rant everytime she saw Dobby or Winky or whenever Ron (and Sirius) made funny remarks about elves. That way we knew what she stood for and there'd be more time for other stuff.
They could cut a bit of Winky's melodrama too.

Yeah. As long as Emma Watson is able to show the anger Hermione feels at the elves not being treated well, they can omit the stuff with the badges. Though they could try mentioning it somewhere.
Or maybe cut most of it. I mean, is practically only important in the beginning, at the Quidditch World Cup.

I have a feeling they're going to cut the other story-line where Moody isn't actually Moody for the whole book. They might just make it actually Moody.
After seeing them cut the whole background of the Marauder's Map, I think this could be quite possible. I also think one of the tasks will be cut (the dragons) or Harry finding the clue from the golden egg. *gasp* or both?! Oy...
