I just can't believe Rowling would kill off Sirius and have Harry talk to Nick and Luna without continuing something with the veil. I just have to keep telling myself that because she cannot just kill Sirius off that way, well maybe she can but there's got to be more to the story. It was too much of a weird circumstance and it happened so quickly. I would be more willing to accept his death if he died of cancer or something but not like this.

Maybe she did it that way to give us a shock. You know like, I for now, never had the thought passing through my mind that Sirius would die.
I think she intends on explaining stuff like the veil in the next two books. Maybe she might even use the veil to get rid of Voldemort once and for all like we were talking on earlier.
Buuuut for now it's still a mystery.

I know this topic has been dead for a pretty long time, but I've been rereading OOTP, and couldn't help not notice something.
Lupin, and probably also the other members of the OOTP knew what the veil could do. They knew that when Sirius went through it, he wouldn't come back. I reread the earlier posts, and it got me thinking. If the veil was something "public" shall we say, something that people knew about, of course the members of the OOTP would know about it. But then it perhaps got out of control, and it was taken to the Department of Mysteries.
Another possible theory would be that Dumbledore knew about it and told the others, or the OOTP knew an Unspeakable who told them about it.
Either way, I think more will be told about the veil in HBP. JK often introduces things in earlier books, then to continue writing about them in later books.
