Harry's patronus has meaning... it takes the shape of his father... do you think the other's patronus' shapes are significant?

I found myself wondering the same thing. Hermione's is an otter? What's an otter going to do to a dementor?

Have you ever seen an angry otter? Scary.
I wonder whether Cho's swan is indicative of there being something more to her than meets the eye -- because swans, while pretty, can fight like the devil. They bite, and getting hit by a swan wing is like getting walloped by something quite a few times a swan's weight.

I was bitten by a swan once. It hurt like hell. No lie.
Haha...do otters have big teeth? :PJust had to ask. Um, I don't know much about otters other than they used to be on my calander...so I can't comment on the meaning of an otter to Hermione. Don't otters build dams? They're like beavers, right? Maybe it shows she is resourceful. I don't know.

Here are some things that each of those animals symbolise. Thought some of you might be interested, especially with the Deer/Stag one.
Deer/Stag - Gentleness, Healing, Connection to the Earth and the Forest, Keen Scent, Grace, Swiftness, Being Alert for Any Danger, Psychic Powers, Innocence, Love, Kindness, Sensitivity, Pride, Independence, Purification, Strength, Nobility.
Otter - Joy, Playfulness, Sharing, Feminine Power, Helpfulness, Sharing, Adventure, the Magick of Joy, Youthful Exuberance, Zeal, Laughter, Curiosity, Mischievous.
Swan - Sensitive, Emotional, Dreamer, Mystic, Longevity, Awakening the True Beauty of the Power of the Self, Soul, Love, Beauty, Self-Transformation, Self-Images, Intuition, Empathy, Moon Magicks, Grace, Balance, Innocence
So, although I think Hermione could have have a more meaningful animal for her patronus, they animals they have I think really suit them.
This is the snake, which I guess is what we connect Vlodemort with...
Snake - Elusiveness, Transmutation, Exploration of the Mysteries of Life, Primitive or Elemental Energy, Protection from Religious Persecution, Goddess Energy, Psychic Energy, Creative Power, Immortality, Rebirth, Resurrection, Initiation, Wisdom, Healing, Transformation.

hehe, yeah, I thought Hermione's otter Patronus was too cute to attack any Dementors. But it does show resourcefulness. Maybe it also shows how looks can be deceiving...people wouldn't expect an otter to be able to fight back, like how some people wouldn't expect Hermione to know more than just books.
Anyways, one thing I'm pretty sure about swans: they mate for life. I guess it goes to show something about Cho's loyalty/fidelity. Not sure in which direction, though, because in way, she was attracted to Harry before Cedric. But then again, she was Cedric's girlfriend when he passed away. I guess that didn't help too much, then.
Are those the only new Patroni we saw? Seemed like there were more...

Did... anybody else have the supremely creepy sensation that they saw those coming? Because... I'm skimming through the first four now... I feel like I read something before that said Hermione was otterlike and Cho swanlike.
Am I just reality tripping again?

No... Well, the swan thing is totally like I've heard it/saw it before, and the otter thing...well, I don't know if the otter thing is because I've been thinking about it or because it was written somewhere else. I want to say they said something about a swan and cho in an earlier book, but I don't think they do. I don't remember it anyways...and then I'm thinking maybe it was in a thread on here? Or maybe it was like one of those sites that gives you hints? I can't quite place it either.
And yeah, I felt like there were more too, but then I think I was probably just imagining it so it seems like there were more.
Maybe a swan was mentioned in book four?
But yeah, it was kind of bothering me too.

I felt the same way, not about the otter really, but definitely with Cho's swan. Right when I read that part, I remembered seeing a piece of fanart of Cho and her animagus. It was drawn a long time ago, before anyone could even conceive that everyone else had patroni. It's weird how Rowling managed to choose just the right animal to represent the characters...

Like many of you, Cho's swan seemed to fit perfectly! It feels like J.K. has compared Cho to a swan before, but I don't remember where. Hermione's I still don't really understand Hermione's otter. Maybe it has something to do with Otters always being perceived as harmless creatures, when they are actually quite agressive. Dunno, just a thought.

I feel like the otter is perfect -- I mean, even the colouring is right for Hermione's hair -- and otter are very inventive, and live as easily in water as on land, and survive weird extremes of climate -- she's just as adaptable.
You know what I think it is? JKR so often gives animalian details to describe people (one of my favourite things about these books) -- Snape is a bat, Trelawney is an insect, stuff like that. So maybe somewhere she gave animal-ish details about Hermione and Cho and we just subconsciously picked up on it.
Or maybe JKR googles for fan art

so does that mean snape's patronus is a bat? because then umbridge's is a toad and pettigrew's is a rat.
wonder what lupin's is? a wolf? except he seems to have bad associations with wolves.

When someone asked JK what animal she would like to be for an animagus, she said otter because it was her favourite animal. And she has said before how she modeled Hermione after herself so... Hermione's is an otter.
I wonder if Draco's would be a dragon... or maybe a snake.. or a ferret

oh, i thought of another one. if your patronus is what you get described as, that means hagrid is a dustbin, since his hands are always being compared to dustbin lids. hey, they can be animated, even dangerous. ask mad-eye
kidding. i wonder if it's rare for people to be able to make patroni, though, because amelia bones seemed really shocked that harry could do one with a distinct form.

Doesn't it just take a lot of concentration and experience? I just assumed she was shocked because Harry was so young, yet could already produce such a perfect Patronus.
But you bring up a good point, Motley, with Lupin's Patronus. Surely, being a member of the Order and such a respected wizard, he is able to produce a Patronus, but I just can't help but wonder what form it would take.
