I know it's a little early to be thinking about this, but I saw a picture on Amazon.com (left) and it got me thinking. Plus, I'm sure everyone's seen the fake cover (right) that fooled people for a long time. So what do you guys think the book will physically look like?? Obviously it'll have something to do with the plot, so what do you guys think? Any predictions, suggestions, or preferences??

You know what? I haven't seen any of these covers before. Actually, I haven't seen any at all until now. People were fooled by the fake one? I does look completely fake....
I have no idea what the cover will look like. I have thought about it for quite some time now too...

I just saw the first one today, but the second one has been around for months online. I guess people with lives probably haven't seen it before... But yeah, some people believed that was the real cover, which is sorta impossible since the book was nowhere near being finished last year or whenever this was created. The picture was actually created by some fan, I believe. So do you have any preferences of what the cover looks like?

if the second one was created by a fan, it was a british fan. because that's what the british paperbacks look like. and that "double smarties award," i think there's a british award for children's books called the smarties award or something. someone british help me out here? anyway the cover art really does look like the cover art on the british books.
the new one looks more like the american books, because of the border and the font. but that won't be the final cover because they'll have a painting like the ones on the other four books. it's probably not done yet.
though it is possible it could have been started or worked on a long time ago, because jk rowling did know what the book would be about, and you ever notice how covers sometimes only show what happens in the first couple of chapters? of course the harry books, at least the american ones, have covers that show more stuff than that. like the third one has the prongs-patronus on it. so i guess the cover artist actually does read the books, so since it just got done, that's why the cover you found only has a frame and a date and the first sentence.
my bet is that fawkes, harry and possibly voldemort will be on the cover of this one.
p.s. silver phoenix, please do not take offense as none of this is intended to even vaguely remotely sound like a slam on you, your house, anything you think or even your socks.

Yep, I noticed that about the second cover as well (about how it must be someone in Britain). It looks really nice, but I still don't think it even fits the books very well. I'm pretty sure JK Rowling doesn't tell Mary GrandPre (the illustrator of the American HP books) what to draw. So you think that she actually reads the books before illustrating? That would be really dedicated of her. But anyways, if that blue cover is just a temporary thing, do you think there's any reason they chose blue? I was actually thinking that the title should be in royal blue anyways. It seems like that would be very appropriate for some reason. Motley, why are you apologizing? I'm sorry if i may have sounded critical about the things you say. I really don't mean to sound angry or mean to you either. In fact, I think you have many interesting ideas, and I always enjoy reading your posts. I hope we're still okay.

The cover of the book will be one of the first things they do - becuase of advertising. I'm not sure if they'll edit the book first and then pass it to the illustrator, or give her a half edited or a fully edited one. JKR doesn't tell her what to draw. I read all of that on a bbc site.
Witht the first fake one it could have easily been an Australian one too - we have the same books as the British. I think the hottest day of summer one is just a advertising poster - not ment to be a book cover.
With the britich versions there is: PS - Harry in front of the hogswarts express; CoS Harry and Ron in the ford anglia:PoA Harry and Hermione of Buckbeak and GoF Harry getting the dragon's egg.
No real connection - besides neither of them have anything to do with the title

Yup, that is true. In the US, all the covers except for GoF had nothing to do with the title. So I think that we won't really know until we know what the book is about. Which I doubt will ever happen until we actually read the book, and well, by then we will already see the cover... But Harry will most likely be on the it.

I don't really think that's true. The first book (U.S. version) didn't show the Philosopher's Stone, but it showed a lot of clues related to it (i.e., Fluffy, the flying key, and the unicorn). The second book definitely represented the title, seeing how it showed the chamber itself and the basilisk. On the third book, it showed Sirius' silhouette and all those other important factors (the dementor, the Marauders, etc.). In my opinion, I found the fourth book's cover a little to obvious. It seemed like the artist tried to cram every little detail on there, which made the illustration lose its subtlety and mystery.

With the UK version, or Australian version, the phillospers stone has the hogswartes express on it with harry next to it. chamber of secrets had the flying car with ron and harry in it. Prisoner of Azkaban had Harry and Hermione riding Buckbeak. And the Goblet of Fire had Harry getting the golden egg. So we get a clue, but not a really exact picture

Yup...That's pretty much it. Maybe there will be pictures of certain wizards and witches? I just read somewhere that The Order of the Phoenix could be a group of powerful wizards and witches. So it could be a posablitly? right?

I think I'm going to draw what I think the cover should look like. If I ever get around to doing that (and people who know me know that I won't : , I'll post it up here. If anyone else wants to draw a cover, post it here!! I think it would be easier to see how you guys think the book should look like with a pic. ~~~ This has nothing to do with the cover, but I just wanted to mention that I read that book 5 is going to cost $29.99 (US), apparently the most for any children's book. Eek! That's a lot of money, but it's so worth it. Besides, most bookstores are probably going to put it on sale for the big midnight opening. ;D

Hey, that's a good idea...Maybe I'll try it once I get the chance.
29.99 for the 5th book!? Yipes... Well, I got the 4th book for about 14 dollars in this place called Cosco on the first day it was released. ;D I'm going back there to buy the 5th book there. Heeheehee...

Actually, I'm not sure about the price. I read in a magazine that it would cost $29.99, but online it doesn't cost that much. So the price thing isn't for certain. Either way, I'm still going to buy it at midnight.

I just saw on a news ticker on the E! Channel that Order of the Phoenix will have two different covers: "one for adults and one for children." That sounds really weird to me, especially since I'm sure children will be able to see both covers in any book store or online. Kinda feel like they should stick to one cover.

Probably they are hoping that some people will be crazy enough to buy two copies so they can have both covers.
