I have a new favourite movie. Ever seen the Charlie Kaufman films, like Adaptation, Being John Malkovich and Eternal Sunshine on a Spotless Mind? Especially Adaptation, which is so life-imitating-art-and/or-life or whatever.

It's official. I have a crush on The Last Samurai. I just can't stop reading up on it, or watching it, or going to IMdB to debate with people about it, or thinking about it... wooah! It's so complex, and it just really hit me at this point in my life.

If you want a favourite short film, try Harvie Krumpet. It's the animated clay thing film that won the Best Short Film at this year's Oscars. It has a good message without being overly moralistic, is quirky and humourous and is narrated by Geoffrey Rush! Oh, and it took the filmmaker 4 years to make the 20 minute film.

For the same reasons that The Last Samurai is your new favourite movie En, I think the same is going for me with The Terminal right now. The circumstances and character of Victor Navorski just hit me on a personal level. It's a really great film.
And holy cow, Ko, it took him 4 years to make that? Is the short film something you can buy on its own? It sounds interesting. I'd like to see it.

ooh! I loved Harvie Krumpet! I actually felt sorry for him, even though he was animated

Ahhh, yes. Poor Harvie. I love that "God is better than football" song they sing when he's going crazy in the old people's home!
Smiles, yeah, you can buy it on DVD or VHS or stuff, I think there's lots of bonus material on it as well because it's such a short film...

I just felt sorry for him for losing a testicle Oh yeah, and his naked parents, hehe Yeah, the DVD comes with three or four other short animated films by the same guy. They're all pretty good.

Harvie had one testicle? I don't remember that bit... but I remember his naked parents on the bicycle when their house burnt down. That was weird, but funny. I also liked the bit when the metal plate in his head started to magnetise on things. ;D

Although I've found a new favourite for this year, the amazing crime drama/character study "Collateral", I'm still in agreement with En about "The Last Samurai". I can't get over that one.

mate and I belong to a thingie at the 16 screen plex downtown and for $50 a year, we can call 2 hours in advance and get tickets--and sit where we like. Cool thing--no waiting in a ticket line and no waiting in a line to find seats....soooo--we've been to the movies countless times this summer and one of my favourite this summer movies is "King Arthur". It was awesome...and both mate and I agreed it was far better than Spiderman 2.... I cannot wait for it to come out on DVD.. guinevere ruled in that movie.

I watches this movie last Thursday on TV, it's called "La Vita E Bella" which means Life is Beautiful. It's an italian film, but really wonderful in its way nevertheless. There's this couple in the time around the second world war and have a very young son. After some time, the father and son have to be taken to the concentration camps and the mother makes a german official take her with them although she isn't Jewish while her husband and thus her son are. The 3 are seperated because males go in one section while females in another. The father makes his son believe that this is all a game. That he musn't be seen or he loses and if he wins the game, then a giant army truck will be his prize. It's really sweet the way the boy believes him and day after day remains in the dormitory, silent and undiscovered. But when the Americans come along the Nazis want to empty the camps by killing the prisoners, and so the father must find his own way to try and save his family. I'm not going to say how the ending is, because I already am very good at ruining a beautiful story.
My dad said the movie won a number of oscars, which is see quite fitting seeing how well it is structured and acted. From the horrible scenes of the WW II, the director managed to bring out some happy about it, something innocent through the child.

Yeah, and Roberto Begnini won an Oscar for that movie. I never saw it though. I like The Pianist a lot though, it has the same context, or sort of the same context. WWII movie focusing on a main character and his difficulties and everything. That movie is brilliant and Adrien Brody is magnificent.

Yeah he did. He starred in the movie Pinocchio but when it arrived in the U.S. people said they were disappointed because Pinocchio's supposed to be a kid not an adult. They hadn't understood the fact that that was exactly what the director didn't want the people to think. We're all Pinocchios, whether we're young or old.
I think I heard of The Pianist.

My current favourite movie is a Korean movie called Oldboy. It's brutal, but it still manages to be an excellent movie. Foreign movie buffs- look this one up!

Most of my favourite movies star Johnny Depp.
Edward Scissorhands From Hell The Ninth Gate Pirates of the Caribbean
I also loved the Hellboy movie. It was just one of those cool movies that sticks in your mind for ages. It was great.
