ah, so i love me some historical movies. though i suppose you cant consider this much of a historical movie; it was more or less the director's opinion on what happened... but it was mighty good. wasn't too fond of the ending, though...i had kinda wished they would go into more detail on her death, but *shrug* so what'd you think?

I have yet to watch this movie, although I want to. I might see it this weekend, but I still don't know, we have some three movies we want to watch.
I've always been intrigued by Marie Antoinette in general. I think it'll be interesting to see how she is portrayed in this movie.
Yeah I have nothing else to contribute here.

haha well i recommend seeing it, but i wouldnt recommend getting your hopes up really really high, 'cause that's what i did, and it ruined the movie in the end. >.< and i have, as well. Those fiction diaries...what are they called? they're based on historical women who've made an impact, i assume...lol, i cant think of them. Anyway, i read the Marie Antoinette one when i was younger, and have wanted to delve into her life since, and this movie provided a great biased opportunity

1. The period reconstruction was amazing: the sets, the costumes, the general feeling.
2. Kirsten Dunst is a goddess.
3. The film itself was a little slow. I liked it a lot, but I did feel sleepy at some parts.
4. The soundtrack. Oh. my. God. When The Cure's "Plainsong" started I nearly shouted.

4. The soundtrack. Oh. my. God. When The Cure's "Plainsong" started I nearly shouted. Mmm, seconded ! Loved the soundtrack. I don't know about Kirsten Dunst being a goddess (she picks some good roles but doesn't always give remarkable performances in them), though she handled this role perfectly. I always have trouble expressing myself when explaining why I like this movie so much. It left me feeling so exhilarated at the end. It's not that it makes being a princess look so cool - she looks like an idiot for most of the film - it's just so rare that everything in a movie (shots, sounds, costumes, timing) works so well together to capture the feeling of a whole social niche. The whole way through, I felt trapped into decadence and blissful oblivion - it felt bad to be trapped, but the nice things were so very nice! You know? It was much like I'd imagine French nobility must have felt, and much like I'd imagine celebrities feel today. It made me feel grateful for the life I have, though. I'll take freedom of will over frilly dresses and champagne any day.
