Because I'm learning Korean, I watch huge amounts of Korean movies. And some of them are really, really good. Much better than a lot of mainstream movies than I've seen. And contrary to the popular belief, they aren't all just a bunch of asians screaming and throwing flying kicks at each other . So, does anyone else watch a lot of (and love) foreign movies of any nationality? Here's my top 5 (yes, they're all korean movies. ) 1. Friend (Korean: Chingu) 2. My Sassy Girl (Korean: Yeopgijeogin Geunyeo) 3. Silmido (Korean: Silmido) 4. Oldboy (Korean: Oldboy) 5. Save the Green Planet! (Korean: Jigureul jikyeora!) Actually, i'm going to have to add Taegukgi: Brotherhood of War (Korean: Taegukgi Hwinallimyeo) to equal 5th.

How can one go past Amelie? That was an awesome film. Oh, and The Spanish Apartment, that one was good too... I'm sure I'll think of more in a second.

I've heard that The Motorcycle Diaries is an excellent movie. I'm going to see it sometime next week when i have the time to head down to the rental place. Hwasango is the one about the highschool student that has those telekinetic abilities, right? That reminded me so much of the x-men movies, just because of all the 'school for "special" children' bit

Both movies are great. Volcano High is comic book cheesy, but it has some great special effects and martial arts. My friends and I almost died after hearing the MTV dub with Method Man as Mr. Ma. He was perfect.

I love the movie My Sassy Girl! Really good second choice, and since you like it but think Friend is better I'll definitely watch Friend soon.
I haven't watched enough foreign films, but based on my knowledge now I'd say:
1. Ponette (French) 2. My Sassy Girl (Korean: Yeopgijeogin geunyeo) 3. Amelie (French) 4. Kontroll (Hungarian) 5 The Edukators (German)

Sad fact? I always fall asleep when I try to watch Amelie. Perhaps I should make time to watch it earlier than 1am for once... One of my good friends constantly raves about Everything is Illuminated. I've yet to watch it, but has anyone heard of/seen it? Ooh...I'm not sure it's foreign, either. Hmm, an American wrote the book, so probably not, eh? Well darn, I'm not even sure I've ever seen a foreign film all the way through. :/

Aw, I have problems falling asleep in movies, too. I think it's even harder to watch subtitled ones when you're tired, so give it a try when you're wide awake some time. Amelie is really worth it, plus it's pretty well-known so then you can join discussions about it.
It looks like Everything is Illuminated is American but it looks good and has Elijah Wood so I'll put it on my list of movies to watch in the future.

Haven't heard of Pushing Daisies yet, but just checked on IMDB and that one has good ratings, too. I'll have to try it out. Thanks for the recommendation.
I just thought... is Love Actually considered British instead of American? If it is then that has to be one of my all-time favourites. I could watch that movie over and over.

Love, Actually is amazing!!! I loveee it! haha If that is foreign, then tally that to my list of watched foreign films. I'm now at....what? One tally? Pushing Daisies is a fave, too, but not a foreign film, so yeah. But if Amelie reminds you of it, then I'm definitely going to take the time to watch it.
