I've always been a "dweller" - I obsess over everything, repeat conversations in my head, and often I can remember every little detail of an awkward moment for years to come. So, following that, I've had this habit of when I'm upset about something or in a mood that I just sit and write absolutely everything that comes out of my head without any thought or refection to just get it out. I always thought that this would help me get over things easier, but I'm beginning to worry lately that pehaps this only reinforces whatever issue I'm having by giving it more time than it deserves. I think this is becoming very true recently because stuff that I should have let go by now is still cropping up all the time and thinking of it still is only counterproductive to letting it go.
I'm not writing this here to just bemoan my own stupidity, but I really just need suggestions. How do you get your mind off of something? How do you just make yourself stop thinking about something that's done and gone and you can't change anymore?

I've often found that sitting with my eyes closed and concentrating on breathing deeply and evenly helps to clear my mind. You can make so the only thing you're thinking about is breathing and then after a while you just start doing it automatically again but aren't thinking about anything either. Give it a go.
