Ahemahemahem... Welcome to Trap Door. ;D
This site is about Harry Potter, or at least it started that way and is now kind of about everything, except that we still talk about HP a lot and we're roughly organised into four houses (Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Slytherin) with house heads and a couple of headpersons. You, as our guest, are welcome to join in the role playing, discussion and games, and if you like you may apply to join a house.
The big deal with houses is basically that we have this competition every week, in which we add up how many members participated, how many posts they made during the week, and how many popular threads -- discussions, games, role playing topics, stuff like that -- they have created.
Because of the way the competition is added, we've ended up with some rules we ask all board members (not just house members) to honour. In brief:
1. If you joined the site, you signed an agreement to abide by the rules of Proboards.com and not to post anything offensive. If you violate the agreement, we will a) delete anything you posted in violation of the agreement, b) advise you not to do it again, and c) ban you if you don't cooperate. hermoine, the Deputy Heads and I tend to be liberal in our rules and administration, but we do not tolerate violation of our hosts' rules.
2. On a lighter note: Because we have members around the world who can't always be on at the same time (which means that conversations can take a lot of time), and because we give points for posts in our house competition, we do have some rules about posts -- namely, the SPAM rules. They are posted below for your information.
3. We also have a rule about creating new threads. Since we give points to house members for creating original games/discussions/role playing situations, we are pretty strict about not allowing new threads with the same subject matter as old threads. You are welcome to start new threads, but we recommend that you be familiar with the board you start it in (like, the Leaky Cauldron is a Harry-Potter-free-zone, so please don't start a discussion about HP in there) and that you flip through the threads that are in there so you know what they're about. You might find that people are already talking about what you're interested in, in which case, jump in!
4. One more thing: we prefer that you have only one account here. We have a lot of reasons for that, and we'll be happy to discuss them with you if you like.
If you lose your password to your account, use the "Forgot password?" link on the login page. If you want to change your screen name, you can do that in "profile" (button at the top of the page). If you want to change your login name, drop me an IM so we can talk about how to do that. Beyond that, we'd ask that you discuss with us (me and hermoine) if you have other reasons for wanting to create a second account.
That's pretty much it. If you have questions or concerns, click to contact: me or hermoine, or post your question below. Thanks
