Firstly, "Hello!" to all you new people as you join up with us.

This is a pretty big forum with alot of boards, and it can be a little daunting and confusing, so here we have a list of all the boards and a little info about them to help you get started and find your way around the board.

Please note that some of the boards are passworded and there are even a few that are invisible to new members. Don't panic or feel left out though. If you stick around and join in the fun you'll get to have a peek inside eventually.

General[/u][/color]

Hogwarts Express - This board is especially for new members. In here, you'll find information about the board, and recruitment threads for all the houses, and the Newbie Commons. It's easy to meet people if you post in here, because many older members will come by to introduce themselves.

Daily Prophet - This is where we post notices, and the News of the board. There are also places for people to put up personal announcements, if they've got something important coming up that they want to share (like a graduation, or a birthday, or things like that).

Riddle Room - This is where you'll find all of our word-games. In the first post of every game, you'll find instructions on how to play. We strongly suggest that you read them before you join in, so that you don't get reprimanded by the hard-core players that go in there Just remember that every answer must be Harry Potter related, and to put some thought into them - not just the simpliest thing that comes to mind.

Diagon Alley[/u][/color]

Leaky Cauldron - This board isn't HP-related. It's basically where people come to just discuss, throw ideas off of each other, theorize, and talk about important news that's happening in the world today.

WTCH (Hogwart's Radio) - This board is where people discuss all that is music. You can post the lyrics of your favourite songs, talk about your favourite bands, what makes a song "good." There's a big variety of topics in there, but they're all about music.

Flourish and Blotts - We've got tons of creative and artistic people on this board, and this is where they share their stuff. You can share or see other people's poetry, stories, art, and music.

St. Mungo's Hospital for Real-Life Maladies - This is *not* a Role-Playing board. When you're having problems, it often helps to be able to share them with other people and get advice. If you're having something that you need someone to talk to about, post in there and someone will be there to help you.

Diagon Alley - Any member of the board can set up a store, or peruse other member's stores in our Diagon Alley.

Lytter Alley - This is a board where people can buy or sell services or goods. Anyone can post in it, but only House Members are allowed to purchase things, or have their own store. This is because the trading in here is real. The Galleons that people buy/sell with can be traded in to buy House Points by that member.

The Library[/u][/color]

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - SPOILERS!!! - This is where you can discuss the latest book: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Post reviews and talk about what you liked and/or what you didn't like about the book.

Harry Potter and the Grand Finale - This board is for discussing ideas and rumours and venting your frustrations about the last Harry Potter book.

The Restricted Section - This section is for discussing any authors, genres, series - anything that doesn't have anything to do with Harry Potter or Anime.

Sticky Floors and Ten Foot Wizards - Here is where people talk about the Harry Potter films, including news about the upcoming films and reviews on the ones that are out.

The Cinema - Where we discuss any movie that isn't Harry Potter, including reviews and recommendations.

Hogwarts

Classes - This is a solely Role-Playing board. People come here to play in bizarre situations in their favourite Harry Potter classes. This is open to everyone, but only Moderators and Teachers are allowed to create new classes. If you have a suggestion, post it in the Staff Room thread.

Gryffindor CommonRoom - This is where all of the Gryffindors reside. Anyone can post in it, but it is the unspoken rule that only Gryffindors create topics there. Their Role-Playing tends to be rather normal - acting how you do daily.

Ravenclaw Common Room - Like the Gryffindor Commons, it is where the Ravens reside. Their Role-Playing is a little more "out-there." There's a lot of crazy things going on in there, but if you just drop through the roof, they'll welcome you into their schemes.

Hufflepuff Common Room - The Hufflepuff Commons is in the middle of Gryff Role-Play and Raven Role-Play. They do strange things, but they're not as crazy/weird as the Ravenclaw's.

Slytherin Common Room - The Slytherins like to plot. A lot. They hang out in their Commons, and plot about things to do to other houses. If you've got some scheme to share, they'll welcome you in.

House Common Room - The House Common Room is home to topics which pose quesitons like "What's the [est] thing you've heard today?" or "What do you want to be when you grow up?". It is discussion, but it's about personal things.

The Grounds - This is further Role-Playing of life at Hogwarts. The locations are just different, and can sometimes get a little... exotic.

The Secret Room

The Secret Room - This is the Secret room only for members that have been sorted into a house. It's passworded so you'll have to wait until you get into a house to see what goes on in here.

Old Topics - This is where all the topics that have gotten too big or that haven't been posted in for a while go, so if you can't find a particular thread that was there before, chances are it'll be in here.

Special Events[/u][/color]

Yearbook III - Every October, we compile a Yearbook of all the members of TD who want to join in. If you're around in mid-Sept/early-Oct, you'll get a message in your inbox inviting you to participate and leave your mark. People are welcome to post messages in their friend's topics, like you would in any other Yearbook.

Maintainence Section[/u][/color]

The Ministry of Magic - This is only open to board moderators. We discuss things that are going on on the board that need to be dealt with, and plan for upcoming events.

There are, of course, also going to be some terms that we use that are a little strange. Here's a listing of the most common ones. If you've got any other terms or things that you keep hearing people talk about and are curious, try asking about it in the Cheat Codes for Trapdoor thread

Auror - See "Moderator"

bic - See "Role Playing"

Deputy Head - See "Global Moderator"

Global Moderator - Someone who is a moderator in all the rooms or boards. They have the most administrative powers on the board except for, obviously, the admins themselves.

Headmaster - One of the people with absolute power over the boards, colours, rules, and member accounts. If you ever have any questions, you can IM "NialleSylvan" or "Potterknowitall" - two of the admins.

House Comp - The weekly competition for house members. If you are accepted into a house, you'll get more information about this from the House Heads. The winner of each week's House Comp gets the board done in their colours.

House Heads - The people in charge of each house. They decide who gets accepted into the house, and they also moderate the house common rooms.

Moderators - People who take care of one of the rooms or boards. They check to make sure that things are going smoothly, remove old threads, and move threads that are in the wrong location.

Newbie - Someone who is new to the board and/or hasn't been accepted into a house yet.

ooc - see "Role Playing"

Proboards - The company that sponsors this site and writes the software... and has to fix the bugs that make things come up funny or look wrong. The Headmasters don't write the software, we just use it.

Reincarnation - A person who deleted his or her old account and came back as another person.

Role Playing or rp - Pretending to be a character and acting as if you were that character. The Classes, Diagon Alley, Knockturn Alley, and The Grounds are good places to do this. If you post something there, everyone will assume it is your character talking. If you want to say something, type ooc (Out Of Character), type what you want to say, then put bic (Back In Character) and whatever your character wants to say.

Thread - One discussion in a room or board, with a title like "Dictionary" or "What is Spam?"

SPAM - See the General Things You Should Know thread. It is very important that you follow the SPAM rules, because they keep our board running smoothly, and conversations going.

Weigh-in - What house members are supposed to do every week to earn points for the House Comp. If you get accepted into a house, you'll get instructions on how to do this from the House Heads.
