Before starting the review itself, let me just say that watching the movie in London was one of the best experiences I've had in a movie theatre. People actually participate in what's going on. They clap, they cheer, they hiss. It was really awesome taking part in that, too. Now, to the movie itself.
Did I like it? I don't know. I think that in terms of visual effects, it was by far the best one. But in terms of ... adaptation and film itself, I have to say it was very, very poor. I thought the scene when the Order goes to pick him up, flying through London, was very out of context. The idea was quite good, mixing the magical world with our own world, but the result was very sad. After all, they were supposed to go and pick Harry and keep a low profile. I think flying right above the Thames in front of the Houses of Parliament isn't keeping a low profile. But that doesn't matter, the scene itself was a very sad attempt at something.
In topics:
- Liked how the Grimmauld Place appeared squeezed between the two houses. That was perfectly done, and the house itself was just as I had pictured it, very dark, very obscure, exhaling dark magic in every corner. I was a bit disappointed that Sirius's mother didn't take a part in the film, but anyway.
- Was sorry also for the kitchen fight between Sirius and Snape not being included. I mean, just imagine Gary Oldman and Alan Rickman doing that scene. Wow.
- I think they focused more on visual effects rather than story or characters. You didn't have those moments and it all seemed a bit silly.
- Loved Gary Oldman playing Sirius this time. He was just as I pictured Sirius during all this time. Very lord-ish with long velvet jackets. But his death disappointed me, too. I was expecting a little more drama since that moment was a defining moment in the whole series.
- Luna was awesome.
- The Ron+Hermione moments in the film were a bit blah. Him being jealous of a giant? C'mon!
Write up your opinions and maybe I'll write something more. If you can remember, I was terrible at starting new topics and rather preferred commenting other people's posts, so go on!
