I know it'll be a while before we get our hands on the final (*tear*) book of the series, but I just ran into something that's gotten me a little excited. MuggleNet had a Write the Opening to Book 7 contest, and I read through them...they're not bad. I have my favourite, but check them out for yourself. I'd be interested to hear what you guys think of the finalists:

Besides that, feel free to talk about your own predictions and preferences concerning Book 7.

Hm-m. What do we know has to happen?
1. Harry has to visit the Dursleys one last time. 2. Bill and Fleur get married. 3. We'll find out why Snape did what he did - at least enough to lay blame or not. 4. One Horcrux has been destroyed and one is missing, and with a third we're pretty sure of what it is but not where; we don't yet know what the other four are - though I have theories - but the point is, we have one down and six to go. 5. Bound to be some Ron/Hermione and Harry/Ginny shipping (you know Ginny's never going to put up with that 'can't see you' bit).
...What else?

Aren't two Horcruxes down? The diary and the one that Dumbledore destroyed, resulting in his injured hand? Perhaps there'll be more about the relationship with Tonks and Lupin. I think Neville will play a big role in the book, and I think we'll hear more about his parents. And of course we'll find out that Petunia is a witch.

You know what would be a really cool (but highly improbable) twist? If it turned out that Neville were the one that everyone was talking about in Trelawney's prediction and the whole attention on Harry thing was Dumbledore's way of diverting attention away from who should really be the boy who lived or something... Totally improbable, but it would be twisty none the same.
Oh, and something has to happen to Draco. After the whole thing in the Tower, something HAS to happen.
Yet another improbable idea I want to hang onto... Dumbledore will make an appearance.

Personally I think Dumbledore will make an appearance. There's a portrait of him at Hogwarts. Seriously, I have no idea why Harry just didn't go and talk to him at the end of Book 6.
Also, this is my belief but I think Book 7 will come out 07/07/07. In a recent update in her website JK said: "for 2006 will be the year I write the last Harry Potter book". Thus, if she manages to write it till the end of this year, and knowing how it is the 7th book with the 7 having such a powerful significance, it's quite possible isn't it? I'm pretty sure we've either discussed this theory here on the board before, or you might have heard of it.
I agree with you on that En. I really was annoyed by the whole "I never really gave up on you" part. So, if she had me go through that, H/G will have to keep on sailing.
Like Izzy hinted En, two have been destroyed thus far. One is probably hidden in the Black House still(taken by RAB), and I think we had discussed that another could be Helga's Cup, and possibly something of Ravenclaw(a quill or maybe her wand). These are all theories but that would make 3 possibly known ones.
Dumbledore had hinted that Nagini might be one but I recall him saying that it wasn't at the very end.

Hmmm, re: Bill and Fleur... what do you think their kids will look like? I don't know if they'll have any yet in book 7, but I'm curious. Also, what do you think will happen with Bill and the whole werewolf thing?

Ko dear, since when have you become so interested in Bill?
They'll probably be half and half. Can you imagine a mixture between red hair and silver?
I don't think the werewolf attack will effect Bill so that he becomes a werewolf himself. I think it will just be his looking different. Do you think that would effect the way his future children would look?(unless Ko managed to infiltrate JK's home and made her write Fleur out of the story ;D) Having a combination of semi-werewolf and veela is even more confusing.

Totally improbable, but it would be twisty none the same. That would be so crazy. But I don't think JKR has put enough emphasis on Neville to justify such a big twist. But who knows...
I wonder if JKR will finish the book with an epilogue or something, so we know, for instance, what Bill and Fleur's kids will look like (in my opinion, probably a combination between beautiful and wild ). It seems sort of cheesy, but she could pull it off well. And besides, there's just so much more that can be told.
I also think that Remus and Tonks will get married by the end...provided neither of them die. Speaking of which, does anyone else think Snape is going to die? I'm still holding onto the idea that he's been good along, so maybe he's going to sacrifice himself in the end, very possibly for Draco's benefit.
Along with the Horcruxes, we're bound to find out more about R.A.B.

Psst! Sphi! JK has already confirmed she will be doing that. Her final chapter has already been written by the way, and it's locked up in her safe ready to join the rest of the chapter when she finishes writing them.
I think Snape will die. As much as I hate to admit it, I'm starting to believe he isn't a good character. JK once wondered why her fans liked characters like Snape or Draco. She said they were only there to fool us(which was a side-note to the fact that she has passed from such experiences personally). Plus when Emerson(Mugglenet) and Melissa(TLC) went to her house for an interview, she was asked this same question. And she said something like, "Fans always seem to have false-hope. Like with the Sirius coming back idea."

Oh she has? Maybe I have read that before, and it just slipped my mind. Okay, so never mind then.
I think JKR would say something like that, though, just to try to through us off. False hope is expecting Sirius or Dumbledore to come back, but Snape being on the good side is still possible.

Psst, Koko's always had a crush on bill, Zeph
Oi! I'm so out of it. Izzy's right. The diary and the ring have been destroyed, leaving five more. We know the locket is still AWOL (and if my theory about where it went is correct, the RAB thing will be explained and Kreacher's probably got the horcrux right now). We're pretty certain that Hufflepuff's cup is another one, and it's likely that something of Ravenclaw's is one. That leaves two, one of which I'm not sure about, but the final of which I am absolutely certain of. The structure of the book is probably going to center around the quest for these five Horcruxes and the ways in which they destroy them.
I doubt it will turn out that Neville is the one, because of what I think the deal is with Voldy and Harry, but I do think Neville will be incredibly important to the final battle, like an Eowyn and Merry kind of thing.
Snape: has reasons we don't know for loads of things. I'm not going to try to make a call on whether he lives or dies, but I bet Dumbledore's portrait will have a thing or two to say about Snape before all's said and done. I am going to go along with Sphi and say that JKR's responses about Snape are probably cover-up - she usually answers something directly if she's not hiding something, and that was a very non-direct answer to Emerson's and Melissa's question.

Hence, my sarcastic remark earlier.
I agree with you on the fact that JK can have some really obscure remarks. But there was that one answer she gave once, I don't think it was the Sirius one actually. It might have been the R/Hr issue because the movies were seriously giving the whole impression of it being H/H all the way. Not sure which one it was. I really need to check into these things.
