I don't know, I might be reading too much into it but I think Petunia's "fear of magic" is something that has rubbed off from Vernon, not the other way around. I definitely think she resents it, but I don't know, she doesn't seem as genuinely afraid of magic as Vernon and Dudley come across to be. I'm sure at some point Vernon must have met James and Lily (or at least just Lily or something, like if he came over to the Evans house while they were dating or something ) and following that, again I don't know if I'm reading too much into it but Petunia would really be torn between the magical world and being with Vernon or something, and I think that's how her sentiments developed.

Maybe Petunia is a squib. Like, maybe she and Lily both had magical powers but Petunia couldn't catch up and basically feels as if the magical world abandoned her or something or ditched her for her sister? I'm not sure on this, but if I remember well, JK had said that Petunia, nor her parents are squibs. They're just Muggles. Or maybe she said something to that regard. I'm not sure. I'll have to check.
Imagine if James went over to dinner when Vernon was there. That would be one dinner I'd love to attend. Gate crash the dinner anyone?
What I'm wondering right now is what James used to do for a living. You know in POA, Marge asked Petunia what James did and Petunia said he was unemployed. But he can't have been. And what about Lily?

Well, we know they were in the original OotP and most of those members had some sort of ministry-related job... maybe he was an auror? James sounds like the type to have a ministry related suit-type job. (Or maybe something for another institution like gringotts?) Maybe that's also why Harry had aspirations to be an auror as well... I don't know.

i think he and lily were aurors. does anyone think Jo might reveal to us their jobs in the final? or do you think it'll be irrelevant? i think it'll be irrelevant, but it'd still be nice to know, you know?

I thought they were both unmentionables--working in the Department of Mysteries. You know--the really secret stuff!

Yeah I had the suspicion they may be Aurors too. Maybe JK could answer that some day in her FAQ section.
New thought passing through my mind, could Dumbledore have declined Snape the post of DADA teacher every time because he knew of the curse Voldemort had put on the subject? By the time Harry had entered Hogwarts, many years had passed, and I'm sure Dumbledore would have realised how every teacher only spent one year teaching.
If you assume that Snape is still on the good side, could Dumbledore have stopped him from taking the post because he feared something would have happened to him?
