So I know some of you were saying how you wished we had learned what Dumbledore's favourite jam was, so I thought we could have a thread where we discuss things and come up with crazy theories on stuff we may never learn about.
Something which I was thinking a lot about was Dudley's worst fear. When the Dementor attacked, he was bound to remember of something. If I recall well, after OOTP, JK had said we'd learn his fear in HBP didn't she? And I think she said we'd also learn things on Petunia. But we didn't. Now I really doubt the Dursleys are going to turn heroic and family-loving in the 7th book, so it may be that this is one point we may never actually learn.
What do you all think?
If there is anything which you'd like to rack your brains on to reach some sort of satisfactory conclusion, just bring your idea forth.

You raise a darn good point with that, we learned nothing about any of the dursleys in the last book, barely even saw them. She also said we would see more of the flying ford anglia but we didnt. I think she might have been confused because she also says that books 6 and 7 will practically be a 2 part. Maybe she knew these things would come up but she didnt know when. Either way, I think Dudley would have remembered many scary little things, like the snake coming out of the glass thanks to harry and hagrids first visit that left him with a tail, and then ten tonne tounge toffee from the 4th book....The dementors make you think of all the horrible things that have happened, and thats probably the worst things we know about.

Yeah... well JK said a lot of things but I don't know if all of them are going to show up right away in HBP... she would have spent a lot of time thinking about all this sort of stuff to go into the HP world and maybe some of those things just missed the cut? Sorry, this is completely a personal gripe but she also said Huffs lived in a cellar when it's a basement next to the kitchens!! (Interestingly, that means two houses are in towers in the sky and two houses are under the ground...)

That would be a sweet spot - just sneak into the kithen for endless food. Go team!
One thing I would like to know is more about the magical world outside of England and Europe. Mainly in Australia ^_^ Just watched Magic At Midnight where JK was asked if a school was in Australia. She said there would be but hadn't written anything about it because she was 'lazy' (yes, she said nothing was done on it because she was lazy hah!).
She was asked if Snape and other characters pasts will be revealed. JK said a little, yes, but not all. She is a big fan of fanfiction and said she's more then happy for others to use their imagination and write the pasts.

BUH. As much as I love both Tonks and Lupin, that whole unrequited love thing did smell of rotten fic. I half expected to see the line "But how could you love a monster?!" wedged in there. At least JK isn't taking hints from those god awful male pregnancy fics.

Just to add a reply to one of the statements in Herm's original post...
Petunia's a witch!! Seriously...she is! I've been saying it for years and I'm sure the truth about this will come out in book seven. This all means that Dudley's got some good-ole wizard blood in him. C'mon, Dumbledore totally eluded to it when he spoke of how they've inflicted major damage on their son, and then Petunia was all flushed. She knew exactly what he was talking about!!
I can't be wrong about this...really! :-)

perhaps the so-called 'major damage' is the spoiling. and the food. any kid who is poiled to death (such as Dudley) will turn out to be a horrid get-me-thi-get-me-that type of adult. and his weight...goodness. imagine how far that won't get him in life.

Maybe he has permanent psychological damage from being exposed to the wizardng world and being unable to talk about it. We can only hope.

Personally I always thought it was something more "concrete" like Ron's fear of spiders. What if baby Harry and baby Dudley had a wee bit of a fight once, while the two dear Dursleys weren't watching, and baby Harry did a bit of magic by mistake? Dudley, being rather pompous, may still remember that event, but has never told anyone about it.

I think maybe that's happened before. Like in the early books when it says that when Harry was upset or angry or something and thngs he couldn't understand would just happen, like with his haircut or with the snake at the zoo or whatever. Perhaps there is something else besides falling in the snake pit and growing a tail and seeing your aunt get overly inflated that has scarred this kid. I think it's also the fact that his parents are so terrified of magic, maybe that has rubbed off on him as well. Remember that Petunia grew up with a witch in her house, so maybe her dislike of magic started from an early age as well.
But I agree. The whole "fear of magic" is kind of flimsy. Maybe because it's an ongoing theme so JK didn't think there was really a need to put a starting basis on it.

Petunia hates magic because she's jealous!! Her parents finally had a witch in the family and it wasn't her. Her parents "finally" had a witch? Finally? How did they know about the magical world beforehand? Perhaps they were...squibs!!

Maybe Petunia is a squib. Like, maybe she and Lily both had magical powers but Petunia couldn't catch up and basically feels as if the magical world abandoned her or something or ditched her for her sister?

i don't know. the way Petunia talks of Lily and the wizarding world in SS doesn't suggest anything of the sort. She actually despises it. And yes, it very well could be jealousy that she wasn't part of the wizarding world. wait, scratch that. it IS jealousy. And just think--if petunia and lily's parents were squibs, and petunia as well, they would know ALL about the wizarding world and have access to it. but this "fear of magic" says that they didn't. they just seem too caught up in the fact that magic is bad and gives their poor dudderkins the only thing he needed to become a full-fledged pig. i don't think she's a squib. Nor are her parents.
