Herm a bit of advice from roadhl darl if ideas come into your head scribble them down anywhere with anything lipstick napkin etc.
It depends which appeals to you the most strongly the law thing when you go to uni you could find out you hate it or you could hate writing.
'Just follow your heart and your head together use only one and it leads to trouble'

'Cause, when I come to writing, ideas just come rushing and I guess I do pretty well in my essays and stuff.
Don't worry Natz, I don't write down my ideas but they're all neatly packed in my head.

Ahhh, but the important part is writing even little notes down. It's like... you know how you can see pictures in your mind, memories of people you like or places you've been, but you can't necessarily paint them or even draw them exactly as you see them? That's because you have to learn all these tricks for how to hold your charcoal, or what colours look like what when you paint with them (Vermeer's whites are never white; they're yellow and blue and silver and purple and black). Same way with words.
If the ideas are in you, you just have to learn how to say them. Practice by telling jokes, if you want; reading helps a lot; but most importantly, put words on paper. Even if you type them on your computer and don't save them, just erase them every day. You just have to put words together. Work at it. Practice it. It's just like a sport or learning a musical instrument.
And lord knows there's room for good writers in law, m'dear -- it's amazing how few lawyers understand that they must be able to tell a good story, use very clear words, keep a judge interested if they want to be successful. There are even some lawyers who specialise in writing briefs, which is a highly specialised style of relating facts and arguments. Or you could write closing arguments for trial lawyers, or be a trial lawyer if you're cool about speaking in front of crowds.
*snickering* Pathological mundanity. Yeah, it does happen. Sad, but true

No I meant like, books as in writing stories, not exactly to do with law.
Don't worry I read......it's a really long history of books mine. Well I guess I practise it here too, 'cause I'm writing, so I'm practising in a fun way. ;D Besides I'm always learning new words and things from you guys which I learn to use.

"roadhl darl" ?? Did you by any chance mean "Roald Dahl" ?
I read this thread (most of it) and a song came to mind from a show. (Leave me alone I'm a Musical Theatre Major at school, in my world everything can be related to a song! )

Yes i did it was a spelling mistake of mine. I was very frustrated at work at that point.
i think if you have to file every day of your life you could suffer from the mundaity of it all.
Thats a nice song but what is a musical theatre major?

I think a musical theatre major is one who studies music theatre with the hope of going and working in that field later? (Um, can anyone confirm this?)
Natz, I agree that filing from 9-5 is mundane! Especially if you're crap at it to start with and get lots of paper cuts. But that said, I would rather file every day than deal with ignorant and/or annoying and/or hysterical people on the phone every day (which is what I do now, yay me).

Well i did gets lots of paper cuts but that wasn't because i was crap at it it was because the filling room was packed and there was no space to put your hand. Which is why i want to become a historian. A good combination of silent momements and hysterical people arguing with you whether your theorys correct or not . Never mind koneko. At least its worthwhile. I've discovered something. I hate offices. I rather be out in the fresh air and rain than stuck inside.

Ahh yeah. I'd rather be out in the wild than cooped up in an office. So, being a primatologist or a child rep or humanitarian lawyer in Geneva is a better than sitting around in an office wearing a suit... but seriously, hysterical family law clients are like, really not that exciting. It's more just really tiring than anything.

Though literary critics aren't all that different, I suppose, so maybe I could try that
Zeph, I think it's so awesome that you come here, because I know it can be really intimidating to speak your second or third or fourth language with native speakers, but you do come, and you do add a lot to our site. Cheers to you for having the courage
Musical theatre major -- yeah, that's studying how to perform in or do technical work for musicals performed on the stage.
I'd rather be outside too. Maybe when I'm a teacher, I'll make my classes come outside sometimes. I will definitely take my students' essays up a tree so I can enjoy the day while grading ;D

Thanks En!
Giving lessons outside is cool En. I mean when the weather's fine, it isn't too hot and flies aren't buzzing around your head. My english teacher sometimes holds our drama lesson in this part of my school, we call it the Greek Theatre. It's kind of like half a Colosseum, to give you an idea, just large enough for the whole school to sit in. Anyway, she tells us to sit on the floor and stuff, she reads and we take notes as usual. But I think it's fun. Better than being stuck in class anyway.

*grins* We used to have this really cool philosophy professor and on sunny days at uni we'd take our classes outside and sit on the grass under a tree... and then he'd draw analogies between the issues we were talking about and stuff that was around us. It was cool. So, we'd be talking about moral philosophy and chopping down trees and stepping on ants and stuff.

I loved having lessons outside. Then our headmaster banned them So unfair i mean geography in a classroom doesn't have the same effect. I don't even have to wear a suit but still it lacks something. Like computors which work for more than five minutes. I say bring back typewriters please. They don't crash and they would probably get the job done quicker. I used to have a typewriter when i was a kid. I loved writing on it. Eek my mates in brazil just sent me an email in portuguese and i can't understand it. Damm it i'm frustrated at myself now for not knowing portuguese. I would love to learn another language though. I plan to when i go in september. Oh right i was just wondering as i have never heard the term musical majorette before. I said that En because one historian found a coin in the soil and said that it changed the history of the romans. Then it lead to a massive debate which is still ongoing. Wohoo i just found out if i want to i can do a term in poland with my degree ;D Thanks En but seriously i imagine you would be like my old english teacher determined to teach us greek philosophy and bring latin back into the educational system. It was cool though.

Well, i guess i'm lucky in the way that i'm all sorted. Next year, i'm going to ADFA (Australian Defence Force Academy, for all the Americans, the aussie equivalent of West Point) where i'll do a bachelor of Science in chemistry or physics, and then on to either Infantry or Intelligence, i haven't decided. I've always wanted to go into the Army, ever since i was a kid i never wanted to do anything else. My dad is in the Army, as is my Uncle, Aunty, two cousins and my grandfather (well, he was ), so i'd say that's probably why, hehe.
