Ahhh, ADFA. Zicdeh, I know a few people that went to that... they have different deals so you don't have to pay for your studies and that kind of stuff, right?

Oh we have a scheme like that in Britain. I think you have to be in the ta first and then they give you a grant to go to uni and after that you go in the army for ten years. Or if you are really good you go to sandhurst which is the top training academy.
Most of my relatives were in the army and hated it.

Ta? What's that, Natz?
I know a lot of people who come out of uni and then go to the army because 1) they can get a job there and 2) job = money, so yeah. I don't know if there's a high demand for little Asian legal beagles in the army or anything. Also because I'm scared of heights, so I wouldn't go near the air force, and the navy? Heh.

In the states, you can do ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) which involves participating in training while you're going through college, then staying in whichever branch of the Armed Forces for as many years as you were in college, and then the Armed Forces pays for your education. I actually did think about doing the Air Force, since in the States, that's the branch doing a lot of interesting research and science stuff -- but needless to say, an openly bi/trans person isn't quite what they're looking for
One of the Democratic presidential candidates this past year also had the idea of a Teachers' Corps where (since we have a teacher shortage) the government would pay for you to get your education certification (it's a 4 year degree) if you went ahead to teach for a certain number of years after that. I thought it was a fantastic idea, but the remaining Democratic presidential candidate is... not someone I have a lot of faith in

Oh the Ta is basically the british version of the reserve army corps in americal. Except if you join it in uni you go along at weekends and get paid sevety pound a week for learning stuff. My grandad tried to get me interested in the navy. I am not going in the navy. I worry too much for a start about the little things in life so imagine what i would worry like if i had to kill someone

Ahhh, ADFA. Zicdeh, I know a few people that went to that... they have different deals so you don't have to pay for your studies and that kind of stuff, right? They give me free accomodation, plus pay me $17,000 a year in my first year, then going up to $28,000 a year in my fourth year to study there, plus, there is no HECS, and they pay for my books. I graduate a Leftenant in whatever force i joined as, and i have to enlist for minimum of the length of my degree plus i think 4 more years. So in my case, that totals to about 8 years.

8 years of study? Wow. I mean, I'm on my 6th year at university and I feel so... old around there. It's like, primary school is 6 years. Secondary/high school is 6 years. Do I really want to spend 6 more years after that at university? And then I did.

Wow... 6th year?? I still got another 2 years to go, and I dunno, it suddendly hit me... I' going to uni pretty soon. I mean, I did care a year ago, but it was more... casual, like. It didn't really matter. And then this year, watching my cousins Dany and Dan (yeah funny, isn't it? They're on different sides of the family though...) graduating, it hit me I only got 2 more years. Well, I'm starting the International Baccalaureate thingy next semester, and basically, if I do well, I can get a scolarship to some cool place... I'd love that. Actually, I'm sorta couting on it. I wanna study Chemical-Mechanical Engineering. Aren't I insane?

Wow, you're doing the IB, Nicks? Cool. A couple of people at my school also did that (because they wanted to get their qualifications recognised overseas at other universities and stuff) and yeah. Most people did really well on it. So yeah, good luck with that. My sister does engineering (Civil/Mechanical) at university, so yeah. She says it's pretty cool.
Haha, I'm so going through some sort of quarter-life crisis or something in terms of careers! I mean, I did (and still do I think) want to practice law at some point, but I'm not having much luck getting a job in that profession. Maybe I'll just stick with being a philosopher and do postgraduate study in that or go for a Ph. D. or something. I don't know.

Yeah it's awesome! Like, at the beginning of the semester, I'm sitting there in english class and this lady comes and asks me to go out... My first thought was "Great, I prolly got in trouble with my friend's homeroom teacher... Damn!" But then she just handed us a letter and said we were lucky. Which left me all puzzled 'cause I had french next and I had to move to go to french class so... I just left it there. And then I felt smart. Everyone... well, no, tons of kids 'round here say it's for nerds? But c'mon, me a nerd? I barely study and I'm in trouble with a different teacher each week. Plus, we get to have art class and everyone else gets to take Socioeconomic Problems... what would you prefer? So, you're 25 or 26 and you still don't know what to do. That makes me feel better about not being sure... Like, what I mentioned before would be great, but sometimes I look at other stuff... I'm crazy.

hahaha, Nicks, you thought I was 25/6 when I first met you and Sands, and that was like, 2 years go... I'm 23, remember? But yeah, I really can't think of something I'd like to do for the rest of my life. Maybe it's just because I'm not passionate about anything, or I'm fickle enough to want to chop and change stuff all the time. I don't know. I quite like not doing law (which is me at the moment) but I don't know if I could do that for the rest of my life. Whatever, people switch jobs all the time, right?

Um right... I s'pose I fixed you at that... well, actually it was 'cause you said quarter-life crisis so, I thought mid-life, 50, quarter life, 25 You know what'd be awesome? Be in a band! Forever and ever! Play in your band and make albums and really *get* to people.... I'd love that...

*grins* When I was in Year 12 at school, one of my career choices was to go into "Sound Engineering"- like, be a music producer, make albums, record with artists, etc... but I would have had to have gone interstate for that, and the course was actually winding up (due to lack of interest :... and then I ended up in law.
I don't know. I'd love to do something musical, but there is a very high failure rate with music and... yeah. I need to earn a crust. I do my music in my spare time now, but when I have enough money (haha, when!?) then I wouldn't mind devoting some more resources and energy to that.

I know what you mean... Like to have a back-up carreer or something... I'd love if my band could one day make that... Live off music... It'd be great, touring whole continents at once and being on the Warped Tour and like... feeling the crowd's energy... It's funny, I don't care about the money all that much, as long as I love what I'm doing... I don't wanna wake up one day when I'm 50 and realize I've wasted my life in a job I hate.

*now wants to hang out in En's academic bookshop for a living* ;D
Nicks, I know a couple of musos who have bands and stuff. It's really hard if you're starting out and completely unnoticed at the beginning. It's like, you should do music as well as something else to support yourself first and then over the years as you get more well known (and therefore get more money at gigs) then you slowly switch between your day job and your music career. But it takes ages, like, years and stuff.
