That's what I meant I work for a man who inherited his practice from his father. We just moved in with some other lawyers, to share space, but he does stuff pretty much by himself.
...Where are you from, anyway?

Well, I guess it's a bit difficult to explain. To give you an idea you could try and find a map of Europe to begin with. Now you have to find Italy(has the shape of a boot, lol) and under it there's the island of Sicily. Now under it there's an island called Malta. That's where I live. It's a very small island mind you.

Oh, okay, that makes sense then. I was trying to figure out where you would live that would have only single-lawyer practices. So, would you want to do mostly family and accident cases, or would you be interested in doing property and contract law and taxes too? (Whew, I just looked at a website about the judiciary system there... I know enough Italian not to be totally lost, but...!) It would be fascinating to be a lawyer there right now, especially, with Malta just going in to the EU... all sorts of new laws, new cases to sort out the laws....
The other cool thing about a career in law is that it puts you in a very good position to become a politician. Also looks like Malta has a really good mediation and arbitration system. That's actually the part of law I was interested in -- I wanted to help people try to resolve their conflicts, more than I wanted to argue one side or the other.

Well, one thing is sure, I don't want to become a politician. I hate politics. The accidents that happen because of it are amazing. I'm not talking about Malta, but it's one of the causes why some people hate each other. You seem to know a lot about Malta don't you? Where are you from?

I live in the USA, umm... if you know where Chicago is, I live west of there, across the Mississippi River. So, pretty much in the middle of the USA. Actually, I've never even been anywhere in Europe, but I read the newspapers a lot and I'm a big history nut. And *yippee* I get to go to Europe soon, so I'm reading a lot to try to think up where to go ;D
...I wouldn't want to be a politician either, not right now anyway (because I don't want to imagine having to work with a certain president I really, really disagree with). I'd rather be a teacher and make sure all my students had enough information to make better choices when they vote just kidding.

You know, for a long time I wanted to be a politician. It was mostly during junior high-- I had an awesome history teacher who really fed my love of politics. Unfortunately, he didn't point out the downsides of politics to me, he just let me wander along in my little romantic dream of passing legislation that'd change the world.
And then I got involved in my local government, and I hate it. I became disenchanted with the American government very quickly, and have lost a lot of faith in it, especially with our current administration.
Right now, though, I want to teach. There are a few other things I want to do before I teach (I'd love to have a brief stint as a journalist-- preferrably for a music 'zine), but teaching is what I really want to do.

Hey En-demic, If you're coming over to Europe you'd better choose where to go well, because in some places there's rain, and for instance in Italy, there's a real shortage of rain. The Italians are praying for some rain. And Gabi, well when one is to decide what job to do, well he/she has to look at what he/she would like to do to begin with, and then look at other things, like if you're ready to take on the job and stuff. Well my dad used to be a Maths teacher, then he went to University(he is still studying) and now he teaches stuff to do with computers. So if you really want to become a teacher, theres no way why you shoudn't become one. Confused?

Well, my biggest dream is to become an actress/singer like Doris Day. If that doesn't work out...I've always liked to become an Astronimer(sp?), or a writer. A writer would probably be first, though. I might get a break in the actress/singer department this week coz Im going to CA and I know a couple people with connections...

Gabi, I didn't know you wanted to be a teacher. Right on! You'd be great at it, and as dianella pointed out, it is the noblest profession (Wow, I wonder how many future teachers there are on TD?)
Hermoine, thanks for the tip. I'm probably going to spend most of my time in Ireland, so I'll miss the worst of the bad weather, but I should check the weather on the Continent -- I want to visit some of the old cathedrals and aqueducts and stuff.

Well Dora, I don't think you can do three jobs at once. I takes a lot working as a lawyer already, more and more being an actress or writer. But you're free to follow your own dreams. You know, I've never heard of a lawyer for animals' rights.

They exist in the States. And I had to write a will once so an old couple could leave all their money in trust for their dogs, for as long as the dogs lived, and then the rest would go to their church.

Change of plans! I want to be a novelist, first and foremost, but while I'm working on that I'd like to try being a book pharmacist. You know, people come in and say, "I need something to take with me on the plane, but I can't stand Mary Higgins Clark. I like James Patterson though," and I say, "then you should try...."

*grins* Oooh, En, you could be like, a professional book prescriber- it'd take an understanding of different literary genres and an interest in human behaviour.
*grins again* I'm one step closer to being a social justice lawyer! (Hello, PILCH internship) ;D Oooh, there are whole firms here Dora, and they like, devote themselves to environmental or animal rights law. They're really interesting people too.
