Yeah, it's incredible how many people want to become teachers. My dad's a teacher, so... I used to want to become one, but then changed in mid-course.. ;D
You want to become a technician Liri? A friend of mine wants to too, and my uncle's one already. He gets to arrange all sorts of things, mobile phones, computers, sometimes televisions...
I like your last point Cer. It seems very interesting. Too bad we don't have anything like that here. Not many kids would stay good to listen to a story. They always want to play with toys, computers(I'm not saying anything else :

I also dream of owning a bookshop, with a big children's section, where kids could come in on Saturday mornings and I could read to them. That's a real peaceful dream, for me. Oo! We used to talk about starting a TD bookstore; I think I was supposed to get the science section or something I'd settle for modern fiction if nobody else wanted it....
Actually, when I went to talk to an old professor of mine about going back to school to get my teaching cert, the first thing out of his mouth was that I ought to open a bookstore... and they do need one in this town... I just don't want to get stuck here for a really long time during the slow first years of the store On the other hand, I do know enough about the business... I worked in a bookstore for years, and now I know the legal and tax sides of business...

*has three words for En*
Go for it!
If you think you want to do that, then do it. You'd definately be happier working in a bookstore than a legal firm, and you can get any books you want at wholesale price. You're obviously confident enough in your knowlege of the business, so the only thing left to work out is funds.
If you can make it work and you want to do it, go for it.
Your other option would be, if you want to move out of where you are, to look at opening one somewhere lese perhaps. Either way, I think you should do it if you want it.

*grins* Ooo, if we were to start a TD bookstore, could I have the general interest/academia section? ;D Or law books... they're so bloody expensive though. If you were to buy all your law books (like, legislation, casebooks, commentaries and study guides) new each semester at my uni, you'd be forking out close to an extra $500.

Yah, law books are like that here, too, and so are science textbooks -- every professor assigns his or her own book, and they're always incredibly expensive and you can only get them new at the school bookshop
(Yet another argument for me to go back to school in literature if I go at all -- I already own about half the books I'd need for classes -- because I thought they looked cool and bought them for a little light reading :
Anyway, sure you can have the academia section -- actually I was going to assign you philosophy and politics if you didn't speak up

*grins* Maybe philosophy, but I'm not too crash on politics, I mean, as far as studying politics and the political system goes, I wouldn't know where to start.
Yeah, law books are usually brought new here because people keep revising them and new cases and legislation come out and whatnot, but you can usually halve your law book bill by getting second hand copies and just updating them using the the web. It's a bit more work but if you're povo like I am... *shrug*
(Pssst, maybe we should give Liri like, the IT or technical stuff section? )

*hears the word Law mentioned* Law? Who mentioned law.
I agree with Liri too en, first I htink you'd do a wonderful bookeeper, it's put there straight that you should go for it! Believe me.

*random announcement as she points to her name* Yeah, I got my results today and... yay! ;D
*grins* Herm, that was probably me! I officially have my law degree! So yeah, next year it's more study for me, and then maybe a year of articles, or more study if I feel like it... I don't know, I think that what I want to be is a professional student. I love learning new stuff, and reading up on what I'm learning and yeah... only downside is that the realities of how society work (i.e. you need money to pay for school fees and books and if you study all the time and don't work you can't make money to pay for school fees and books ) sort of put a big stopper on that...

Hooray for KoKo! ;D We all knew you'd do it.
*very much likes the idea of being put in charge of the IT/Computers section of the book store ;D*
If not that, then I'd op for the anime/manga section.

Oh man... I had this idea of organising a bookstore like a message board, you know, with categories, boards and threads -- categories being like "fiction" and "science" -- boards being "sci-fi/fantasy," "mystery," "historical fiction" -- threads being groups of books that people tend to like in clusters, like how people who read Agatha Christie usually like Elizabeth George, but not the hard-boiled detective writers.
With computers, it would be really easy to find any book in the store, or you could just staff it really well.
Or, actually, it might be better to organise the store traditionally because volume shoppers like that sort of thing... and then have a whole bunch of computer terminals where people could get on and be part of the message board, make recommendations to each other by posting in the threads, stuff like that.
ARGH! I don't want to open a bookstore! I already don't have any money and want to leave Crapids... if I opened a story I'd have even less money and I'd be stuck here for at least five years... GAH! if only it weren't so... natural that I should do the bookstore thing

En, I'm sure you will one day, and not in Crapids (hehehe, funny shortening of names). Just don't organise your non-fiction into that nasty backwards Dewey system thing like what my library does... Seriously, that place needs a new overhaul and maybe some new management.

The Dewey system is like a language unto itself; most people haven't learnt it, so they never know where to look for stuff. Nah, I'd group by subject, and try to make the subjects flow from one to the next. You know, like, maths -> hard sciences -> soft sciences -> psych/self help -> spirituality -> religion -> philosophy -> politics -> biography -> history.

Shame about that En i think when you get enough money you should open a book store you would be great at it. You could always open a bookstore somewhere else.
Well if we are going to have a td bookstore can i get the sci-fi section or the comedy section. I don't really mind which.
I thought history books were expensive but £500 for a law book is a ridiculous amount.
Er whats the dewy system? Is that the numbering code for the library books?
If i could i would love to be a script writer when i grow up but this isn't going to happen so maybe a researcher. Suggestions are very welcome.

Yeah, see that makes so much more sense. The library here uses a weird version of the Dewey, so like, if I were looking up books on a particular subject then I'd end up having to look in about 5 different places in the decimals or something. And when the library is 5 floors high and you aren't allowed to use the lifts, it gets pretty annoying...
