I was just thinking about how the world of Harry Potter relates to my own. It's really quite strange if you think about it. There are lots of odd similarities. Here are just a couple of mine:
Just like Hogwarts...
+ My Chemistry class is just like Potions. It's uber hard and the teacher, like Snape, is frightfully intimidating...at least to a couple people. He probably doesn't scare everyone, but he definitely scares me. ~_~
+ This one Latin teacher is crazy and so jumpy and loud, even though he's rather old. It's rather amusing, really. Most people like him, but a lot of people think he's a bit too annoying and insane. Can you guess who he reminds me of? That's right, Dumbledore. ^_^
+ There's this janitor/grounds guy at my high school who totally reminds me Filch. After school, he goes around to lock the doors and stuff, but in all my experiences, he was very cruel to the students. One time, my sister and I was helping two other students gather some canned foods from different classrooms which were for charity. It was already about 5pm, so the janitor was closing everything. He kept accusing of us things and later tried to get those two other guys in trouble. I bet he has a cat at home...
So how about you guys? I'm sure there are things in your life or just reality that remind you of the Harry Potter world, whether it be because they are so many similarities or you're just way too obsessed with Harry Potter.

People always give me books, but the ones who really know what I like give me socks.
I had a friend when I was in high school who was so much like Ron it's scary. Mostly the poverty thing, and the fact that she never got that I totally envied her family, because they talked to each other and laughed. Mine didn't -- Not that I'm saying I'm the Harry character. I was definitely Hermione at that age. I knew everything. Fortunately, I have forgotten a good deal of it, so I'm much easier to deal with now

Hmmm... I have a friend who reminds me of Oliver Wood it isn't even funny. But I wonder if we can relate to the books so much because JK wrote the characters and such based on people she knew, or the type of person?
I know a guy who could be the spitting image, physically and mentally, of Percy... He and I didn't get along.

Exactly, Calantha. That's probably why the HP books appeal to so many people, too. They're so relatable to our own lives. They seem real, even though they're about magic and this whole world of fantasy. Isn't it great? hehe, socks...we'll be sure to remember that, En

This is the true story... Of three wizards... Picked to live in a castle... And have their lives written about... To find out what happens... When Magic Folk stop being polite... And start kicking evil-butt...
The Real World...Harry Potter I swear when I read the title of this thread my mind went directly to MTV. Isn't that the saddest thing? (And here I am admitting to it. ) So that's pretty interesting about how real people in your lives seem to correspond to characters in the books. I've never really given it much thought; nothing beyond noting that some people I know have a few or more main traits in common with certain characters. I don't think I can honestly say that I know of anyone who fits any person in the books to a tee. Except maybe Beth to Neville.... ;D KG'll get a kick out of that if she reads it, and I'm sure she'd agree. Neville and Good 'Ole Beth may very well be two peas in a pod.

Hahahahaha! That is sad, but it's okay, because I think it's hilarious. And maybe even worse, I think I would so watch the Harry Potter Real World, and I haven't watched it sense...(Real World that is) since...Seattle maybe? I think so.
Argh, I hate all of these reality tv shows, but at the same time I am soooo drawn to them. It's crazy.
*laughs again to herself*

My sister probably wants to tell this story, but she has a kid in her Drama "class" that looks/acts exactly like Draco ;D. I haven't met him yet but I've seen him around and he has a smirk too and it just looks exactly like him. He's got blondish silver (i swear) hair, he's got a really rich family, he over-dramatizes everything, and almost everyone hates him (even his friends). My sister hated him until she got to know him and now she only kinda hates him .

Well, that kid can't possibly be Draco if everyone hates him. Actually, this is just sorta uncanny, but reading what Dawn wrote reminded me of this. When my class went to see the production of Julius Caesar, the guy who played Cassius, bless his heart, looked just like a grown-up Draco!!! Ahhh! My friend and I went crazy. He was basically the version of Draco known by people obsessed with fanfics...like me. ;D Ah, he was great. Talented, nice, and super cute!! (Too bad about the girlfriend thing... )

Dawn's right, this kid reminds me so much of Draco it's scary. Like she said, he's rich and he talks about his money all the time, and he knows people won't hurt him because he'll run to his rich father who'll bail him out of trouble. He does things just to get attention and he does look like Draco. Another thing is, my chemestry teacher from last year acted like Snape but has this very scary/creepy resemblence to Filch. Dawn can vouch for this . My teacher was so strict that people were afraid to speak in her class. But she wouldn't let us blow stuff up, which made me sad, but anyway...you know how in the Harry Potter movies Filch looks at Harry and Ron and when he says stuff, his eyes bug out? My teacher does that. And she's from Boston so she even kind of sounds like Filch. He scared me so much in the movie because it was like seeing my teacher on the big screen.

That was the scariest thing! In the first one when he said "got to have your wits about you" it looked Just. Like. Her. Btw, something I think we should point out, this particular teacher wears sneakers so she can chase down students and give them detention for running in the halls . Oh and she's really old (or at least she looks it) like Filch ;D.

haha, I love that chasing down the students part. That would be hilarious to see. ;D But I don't know if your Chem teacher could beat my Maintenance guy. We should put them together and have them duke it out. hehehe
Oh, another thing...my Spanish teacher last year sorta reminded me of McGonagall. She seemed pretty strict most of the time, and I hardly ever saw her smile. (Maybe I'm exaggerating a bit, but this really IS how I remember her.) A lot of people thought she was hard, but I did well in her class and I found her VERY fair. Plus she had been with this school for a LONG time, although she's not very old. And she looks sorta like a witch, but that's a different story.

I finally met the Draco kid. He is so funny and he likes to conduct the piano music ^_^. He's really a dramatist and he screams high pitched hehe. I'm sure my sister wants to tell the story about how she scared him but maybe thats a story for another day (hehe she knows what I mean)
Cass, your spanish teacher reminds me of my old french teacher O.o. Really, and she was an actual french person so she had a mean kind of accent.

i know quite a few people who remind me of characters in the book... my drama teacher in high school is very lupin for one... are our lives really all so much the same that we see similarities between our lives and those of characters in the same book?

Oo, I was thinking about this the other day and have decided that my school is frighteningly like Hogwarts ((then again, I'm sure you can find connections for any of the characters, but w/e ))
*Our house system is run in basically the same way. Throughout the year, you earn house points for activites you're involved in, how your house does in sports, and you get points for your overall average each term. At the end of the year, the house with the most points gets the House Cup. We also have 4 brother-sister houses and have the same 4 colours. In the younger schools, you sit in your houses for lunch.
*While the Physics teacher doesn't have the attitude of Snape, if he was a little older he'd look just like Snape. He's got the hair and everything,
*The Calc teacher is exactally like McGonagall. She's awesome. She's really cool, and she comes across as the uber strict sort but will bend depending on the situation. I don't know, I just get a "Minerva" vibe from her but I'm not entirely sure why. She's also the Deputy Head of the Senior School. ((ooO, freaky))
*There's these twins in OAC who are Fred and George Like, everyone in the school knows them because they're always joking around. They're both Prefects and you can't tell them apart for the life of you. ((*grins* And one day they were doing announcements at lunch and one of them decided to announce that "Quidditch pratice will be on at the far left field for Gryffindor at 3:30" ))
*There's this one maintence man. Everyone knows him, he spends half his day yelling at you for not whiping your feet, being in the wrong spot, or talking too loudly He also just... "appears." Just, he always shows up in places where you'd least expect him and you don't notice him until you turn around and he gives you heck for littering or something. He's our personal Argus Filch

eh, we get separated into houses too, except it's every year... when I was blue last year we won. ;D This year yellow (which is mine ) is in first place right now, so we can connect that to TD.... It's also the same 4 colors.
Susy E-B. P. is so hermione it's amazing... Loreta's like Neville, she's always given me that impression... Ha! Our new principal is like Dumblydorr, very involved with the students.... We have competitions with other schools (organized by us, I mean) that remind me of the triwizard tournament...
