For all those Broadway fans out there, no, the subject is not misleading. One of the best shows to ever grace Broadway is being made into a movie. 6 of the 8 OBC cast members are back for this. There's a trailer up for it already and I think it has potential.
Here's the website: www.sonypictures.com/movies/rent/site/
11/11/05 is now an important day for me ;D

That trailer is so awesome. I so can't wait to see it.

Mmmm, I don't know how I feel about making Rent into a movie. I'm not sure why, but the broadway version is really wonderful and I'd hate to see it ruined, although the trailer does look good.
I think it would be really great if part of the proceeds went to an AIDS research foundation though.

I'd like to see that too Cala. That's a great idea! I think Johnathon (sp?) would've wanted that.

Yeah, Jonathan Larson sounds like the type of person who really, truly believed in the conviction of the mantra underpinning his musical. That would be really great if it went to AIDS research. Actually, when I went to see the musical version at the end after the finale and everyone clapping and stuff the cast said that they would be in the foyer collecting money and they did, like they went straight from coming offstage to holding collection buckets (you know the ones people put coins in) at the doors of the theatre. It was really cool because it was like, you could donate money to a good cause and also get to talk to some really great actors at the same time.
Sidenote: I got offered a job doing running crew/backstage work on the RENT musical here in Melbourne! It turns out that my supervisor at the legal service will be producing the show when it returns (well, I'm not sure if he's just producing or EP but anyway)... So yeah! But I can't take it because I'll have gone to the US by then.

Bummer Ko. That would've been so awesome to do.
That must've been wonderful to see the cast doing that. I just adore the idea of that being done. Makes me feel good knowing that someone out there's trying to make a difference in the fight to rid the world of this cruel disease.
EDIT: I hope everyone's checking out the blog. I love the video entries they do once in a while.

Time to dust this thread off...
As most of you know thanks to my sig, the release day of Rent gets closer and closer. If you haven't been checking out the blog lately (www.sonypictures.com/movies/rent/blog/), they are now showing little clips from the movie as character video diaries. It's a nice sneek peak into what us loyal RENTheads can expect when November 23rd rolls around.
Besides myself, is anyone planning on seeing the film on opening day?

Oh yeah. The first time I saw the trailer on TV, food went flying everywhere because I was having dinner and I had to get up and jump up and down.
So can't wait to see this movie. Emma, you might have heard about it as a musical, it's been on for a couple of years now.

I also can't go see it opening day, because I have to work that day in order to get Thanksgiving Day off, so I'm taking lil bro to see it then. I'm so excited!

Since RENT is coming out next week, I had to put this up somewhere:
Which RENT Character are you?
Haha, I did this and I got Mark the first time, but I went back and changed one answer and got this, which I think suits me much better:
Collins - the intellectual. You fall hard for those who surround you with happiness, and you have no problems with being youself. You damn the man and love other men all at once.
Do the quiz, watch the film and tell me what you think!

Roger - the musician. You're a sad soul, and you know it. If only you could express yourself in the way you long to! Let some love in, it'll help. I am so going to watch it. Since a group of friends and I now have time and money to see movies, we've made an oath to go in large groups. GoF was the first test, now we're planning on seeing Rent, then Narnia.

I can't wait for this movie to come out. I'm already making plans to see it at least 3 times with different groups of friends. The trailers look so awesome and I love how they've really done work with the sets and everything in moving it to the big screen. I'm excited. ;D
