Have a film you've just seen that you want to rave about? Or was it so bad that you never want to watch it again, and you want to warn others of what they'd be in for?
Here you can talk about any film you've seen recently (and rate it if you want) and get it all out of your system!

I've seen Freaky Friday twice. It's a really good movie, in my opinion. Especially that guy in it...Jake...*swoon* He's so cute. Anyways, I loved the part when they did that jolt thing. It's in the commercial trailor, but it's just so much funnier in the movie.

Alright, I have to complain about 28 Days Later. It's directed by the guy that did Trainspotting, which I totally loved so I was sort of surprised when 28 Days Later came around. Also because my friend JG had seen it and kept saying how great it was, and usually he has really good taste in film.
So, the plot involves a guy who wakes up from a coma 28 days after a really deadly virus is unleashed and all these people either die or become infected zombie type people with glow-in-the-dark red eyes. Alright, they do look sort of creepy and the whole concept of surviving in such a hostile condition (where most people were dead) was sort of scary, but there were bits of it I just found really laughable. Like, the whole idea of the sex-depraved military guys (maybe I'm a girl and can't relate, but anyway ) and even the concept of something spreading so fast- it's on the brink of being impossible. I would probably have found it scarier if the government had unleashed the virus on the public in an attempt to lower the population but had made some sort of hideous miscalculation, but that's because I like those sorts of theories.
However, the film does have some merits, the cast is basially all not-that-known people, which does add a bit of realism, and I really dig English accents. ;D And if you do watch it, check out the supermarket scene- that had me grinning from ear to ear.

Pirates of the Carribean. Oh wow. This movie came out today in Australia so we're a bit behind.
It was a lot better than I thought it would be- the whole moonlight thing was pretty well done, as far as SFX go, I guess. I loved the bit when they were fighting with the redcoats and the the cursed pirates were like, rolling around on the deck and everytime they hit a patch of light, that bit of them would go all skeletal and stuff.
Oh, other really cool bit? When all the skeletal guys walked underwater to board the naval ship. Yeah.
Only gripe I have is that the humor was starting to get really corny and... well, annoying towards the end, and I don't really care for the Ms. Swan (aka "Bend it like Beckham" girl ). But yeah. I have a new respect for Johnny Depp.

I thought Jonny Depp was really good in it, last film I saw with him in (and my first) Was Edward Scissorhands, but he was really good in POTC.
Soundtrack is ace too, Orlando is pretty neat with those swords, but of course we'd not expect anything less after his performance in LOTR
Great Film!

As i said before it was way too over hyped over here which spoilt it a bit because by the time you had got to see it in the cinema you had seen most of the jokes and the zombie bit about a hundred times. It was a fairly good film though. Miss swan didn't do much for me either. I went to see lara croft and tomb raider 2 it was a pretty good film with the special effects.

I liked Pirates of the Carribean alright. It kept my interest and I'd give it two thumbs up for that alone, as so often movies can bore me if I'm not kept intrigued (mentally or visually). I didn't like Miss Swan very much either, but I think it is partly because I didn't like her character playing a half hero half damsel in distress and I felt like there wasn't enough of a middle road for her. I liked Jack Sparrow though, he kept me quite entertained. And yes, the humor could get corny, but I think it was an acceptable amount of cheese being that it is partly (or mostly?) based on the disney ride, which I adore. I uh...I've got a real problem with them remaking Freaky Friday so much. Is it so hard to leave an originial alone?

Um...so I just got back from Once Upon A Time In Mexico...starring Johnny Depp (to go with the earlier JD conversation) I really really liked it. Not your typical bad guy vs. good guy...for once, they were almost all bad guys (okay, antonio banderas wasn't all that bad) but the lines were really fuzzy...you didn't know who was good or anything. Plus, with loads of comical relief, it isn't your everyday action-lots of guns-movie. At one point I feel as though Johnny has a slight character break when he says "Savy" Thinking POTC there. Over all, I give it two thumbs up (and I was so proud because I didn't the subtitles when they came up because I understood them! All those years of spanish have paid off!) But...everyone had guns in the movie...the violence at parts bothered me, but there was so much eye candy that it was easy to overlook (and no, I didn't like the movie only because of the actors in it). Um...thinking Vin Desil's movie last spring with comedy, foriegn guys, more guns, and not a clear vision of who is bad and who isn't. Man...I almost wish I was a corrupt us cia agent or a mariache (sp? Yeah..I might be able to understand spanish, but as always, my downfall is spelling )

American Splendor. I don't know if many of you will have seen this because it's not a mainstream movie, but it's really, really awesome. It's basically about a comic-book writer guy called Harvey Pekar and stuff that happens in his life, only the character Harvey Pekar is really a real guy AND the character in his comic book. The cool thing is that the real Harvey Pekar is in it and there's also an actor Harvey and everything, so they switch between reality and acting on something based in realisty.
Confused? I was a bit too, but I think the point is that whether something is real or not in the film isn't really relevant. It's the whole art imitating art imitating life thing. Funniest bit? The first time Harvey meets his wife at the train station, he says "Er, I just want you to know right off the bat that I've had a vasectomy." ;D

The virus doesn't make zombies, it amplifies anger and/or rage within people, and everyone knows that once someone's really buggered, they're capable of pretty much anything. So these people are STILL ALIVE, NOT DEAD, they just run around and inflict violence on whomever is unfortunate enough to catch their attention while hemmoraging and going into spasm attacks. You find out later, from Mr. Philosphical, Non-Horny soldier that actually, only Great Britan is infected with the virus and that the rest of the world is quarrantining them! *gasp* I agree with dear (Faster) Pussycat (kill kill! Ok, even I admit that was a horrible way to reference Bond) that those men wouldn't have been that desperate for some lovin' after a mere matter of months. They'd have to be deprived for years at least, not counting the fact that they could have just passed around the Astroglide for "relieving tension". Plus, Hope is pretty darn persistant, even in us hardened pessimists. Anyway, I liked the movie, even though the black chick was way too hard ass for me (I know, I know, a defense mechanism so she won't hesitate to kill the next infected member of the posse) and seeing that girl's daddy die almost made Lucifer himself cry. The "other ending" sucked big time and I can see it merely as a method of raking in more cash, those greedy, greedy jerks. The music was insanely good (FEEL the desperation bleeding from the tempo of the music as our protaganist runs through those deserted streets!) and the cinematography is pretty good, no painfully forced "artistic" shots or the like.

Cala- The other ending? Like, the DVD one? That hasn't come out yet in Oz... I think I can imagine what happens but I could be wrong...
And my bad about the stunted facts of 28 Days Later. I was trying to give a very rough gist without giving anything away.
The Italian Job. (Wow, you guys must think I watch a movie every day or something by now : Interesting ways of robbing people, I have to say. And man, did they plug that mini for what it was worth! While the plot was a bit predictable (you could tell people would cross each other and the like), some of those thieving ideas were really quite smart, as far as movie thefts and car chases go. So yeah, I found it quite enjoyable (without really having to think much). Oh, and yeah, if someone didn't tell the casting director what eye candy is....

Yup, they re-released "28 Days" over here because of the second ending, but it isn't very good at all. I had some ideas about what it would be and I was sorely dissapointed.
About the Italin Job, I thought it was great for what it was, an action movie about theivery. I didn't initially expect any huge plot developments, but I enjoyed myself. Nothing ridiculous happened and there weren't any gratuitous, "I know I've just met you, but let's have sex" events going on. Sure, it's not "Sexy Beast", but it is still a good movie.

I thought Italian Job was a fun movie. I enjoyed it at least.
Adding to the idea of not knowing who's a good or bady guy, stated awhile ago with Once Upon A Time In Mexico; Those kind of movies are almost always the best. When you don't know who the good person is or who you're supposed to root for just like in Memento. Of course that was even more trickier because it went backwards. Although everyone was a bad guy if you think about it, Lenny just seemed nice cuz his murders were just so he would know he killed the guy who killed his wife.
