*sprays reviving liquid*
So a DVD rental shop finally opened in my village and last week we hired a couple. I thought it would be interesting picking two we had no idea what they were on, so I got The Assasination of Richard Nixon and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
The Assasination...made us go "WHAT?!" at the very end. Seriously, if you take it at face value, the main character is pathetic, and the film can be pretty boring, and sometimes weird. But then I got talking a bit and realised how true the movie seemed. (Perhaps anyone wishing to see the film, shouldn't read from her onwards.) Because the biggest liers in society are actually politicians, and it was natural that Sam [whose surname I didn't quite get] would go after the President. The character still seemed rather surreal in such a racist society...I mean there are some situations where the people just have to sit back, shut up and watch while society is led by those with power. True, he wanted to change things, although he wasn't quite capable of doing so because of the limitations of his character, but still, he didn't realy change much. Like, I don't think the Panther group actually adopted his idea of the zebra to promote equality between whites and blacks...And why the hell did he have to shoot the dog?! It was probably one of those times of doing something out of love, a situation I haven't really understood, because, at least, from what I understood of the film, he shot the dog because it was the only good thing left in the world, the only thing which loved him no matter what.
Eternal Sunshine was really great in my opinion. It was a romantic comedy, with a completely new look at the genre. Jim Carrey was exceptionally awesome, even though he wasn't acting his usual comedy part. I especially liked how the story then went back and sort of explained what had happened, because when Elijah Wood appeared the first time I was lost. And Kirsten Dunst's hidden story, was a real twist! I especially liked the whole run through his memories. I was watching it and thinking, "Oh gosh! Look at the awesome colouring! They would make such beautiful icons!!"
Have any of you guys seen these movies? What did you think of them?
