Well Nancy, no Spain-Germany final for you I didn't watch the game. Most of the games are being broadcasted on a codified sports channel and my dad didn't want to subsribe for it just because of the World Cup. So all I have are Portuguese or Brazilian matches, and even so today's match against Ghana wasn't aired. I didn't like the French winning, or the idea of it anyway. I think the current team has a bit too much of an arrogant pose, don't you?
I'm so glad we haven't played with Argentina yet. We'd be doomed if we had. And what about our match with Holland? Damn, they were so, so, so evil. It was getting really ugly, you could feel the whole country on the verge of a heart attack waiting for the game to end and just hoping no more Dutch players would find a way to get rid of another Portuguese player. And now it's England for us, which won't be easy, but better than Argentina. They scare me. Too good. I didn't see any of Mexico's games, nor the one against Portugal, I've only listened to it on the radio so I can't really say anything about you guys. Although I was hoping and wishing you'd beat Argentina.
My favourites for the cup were the Italians, but now with the way they're playing and how they're getting off by, I say, cheating, I'm starting to dispise them. And they only use Inzaghi whenever they need to score fast, which is not tottaly fair for a player who's been injured for years and who needs to practice and stay warm so the bones won't rust again. But no. Whenever they need to score, they put him on; meanwhile, he stays on the bench. Inzaghi was one of the great Italian players, I don't get it. I really don't. And the whole spotlight on Totti who doesn't do a thing and when he scores it's like by miracle or something. Grrr. I think that for someone to win the cup, they have to really earn it, sweat for it and suffer for it. The Italians have got their way all eased up by whatever foul stuff they did to buy scores or referees. I do believe the people behind the team recurred to those things. There are Italian clubs involved in that kind of scandal, so it wouldn't really surprise me. Poor Inzaghi.
So my favourites then were the Aussies. But now that they're gone, I guess supporting my country wouldn't be so bad Kidding. I do support them, but not in the fanatical way the tipical portuguese citizen supports them - it gets scary, believe me. But I have to say that our team is great. And that we can make it to the final, I have all the hopes on that. Depends if we're on a good day or not (typical portuguese mentality). If we happen to be lazy on the match against England, damn. But hey, we won to the English two times already, even though the second time was through penalties, but even so!
Hey, thanks for pointing that out!
Holidays are not boring yet for me. They will be, eventually, but not now... I have to study for an Informatics exam in July, lots of things to go through, specially old papers so... I'm kind of busy so far.
Thanks for the karma, Nicks. I'll give you some too. (Imagine me with just one karma thing for the rest of my board time *laughs insanely*)

Bleh, it's scarier the way mexicans support mexico. It's also a lot cooler. Me and my mum watched the game against Angola and we were shouting as if we were at the stadium. "Ki-kin, ki-kin," "ole! ole! ole!" that sort fo thing. Oh, and singing cielito lindo. "Ay, ay, ay ay! Canta y no llores! Porque cantando se alegran, cielito lindo los corazones...." yeah, we were acting like crazy people, I suppose.
I've watched practically every game because we get every game from Round of 16 and beyond on cable. We also got over half the First round games on cable; and we got Sky. Sky is broadcatsing everything. I'm totally overdosed on football right now and I dunno what I will do when the world cup ends. Die from withdrawal or something.
I'm currently cheering for Germany. You know, now that Mexico's out and all. You have no idea how much we all suffered in the game against Argentina. It was killing me and my family and my friends; a lot of them came over to watch it. I think it was the better played game, and yet we lost. Extra time... but yeah, it was alright. The game against Portugal on the other hand, was sort of boring. Mexico played that one terribly. Our captain tried to stop the ball with his hand in Portugal's box, wtf? That one was a penalty for Portugal which they scored. Then Mexico had a penalty shot as well, and Bravo, who apparently hoped to be champion goal scorer, asked to shoot it. He missed. Now honestly, when you got players like Luis Perez or Rafa Marquez, you don't shoot a penalty! You ask one of them to shoot it!
The game against the Netherlands was... intense. I sort of wanted the Netherlands to win, but it wasn't a strong, burning desire. So I'm ok with Portugal having won, and I hope they give a good game against England. I also hope they win, but I want a tight, exciting game. On the other hand, I hope Germany massacres Argentina.
Brasil - France... hope France wins. I now want a Germany - France final. Rooting for Germany, of course.
Switzerland - Ukraine was insane! No goals until they went to the penalty shootout. The swiss didn't score a single one! And Shevchenko missed, which was a big surprise. Anyway, I sort of wanted the Swiss to win... but whatever now. I'm rooting for Klose for goal scorer champ too.
The opening match was pretty good. I enjoyed it. A lot.
Tomorrow is Germany - Argentina! Go Germany go!
Hey Rida, what's you favourite music these days?

I'm not watching the World Cup anymore. I determined sports are bad for me. I get really distressed when things don't go right. And I'm just a causal watcher....
But yeah, ever since I got out of school I watched nothing but soccer.
I'm going to melt now.

I've watched nothing but soccer as well. But I love it.
What did you think of the US games, by the way?

Suddenly you've all gone soccer mad like the rest of Australia....
Before Australia qualified for the world cup, hardly anyone watched soccer. The national legue was only on paid TV (which something like 2% of Australia gets), but then suddenly everyone LOVES soccer. The world cup was broadcasted by the smallest free to air chanel and they were getting something like 2 million people (out of a 20 million population) at 2 AM. And all the shops have gone fanatical.
Personally I don't care - Australia did excellent to get into the second round - and I do agree that that penalty with Italy was dodgy, but hey. What I found shocking was that The Netherlands got out in the same round (both my parents were Dutch, so if there is no Australia, I go for Netherlands).

I watched USA - Italy and I hated it. In the end I was supporting the US because damn, Italy wasn't playing a thing and they got away with the most unbelievable things! They were like Holland in the match against Portugal, or even worse! It's what I say, if the Mob isn't behind the Italian team, I don't know what is. The current team sucks and it still wins and has been winning throughout the most unbelievable moves. And Bocanegra is so... something
Argentina - Germany: go Germany! Put Argentina far, far away from Portugal's sight!
Brasil - France: go Brasil! Not that I'm mad about Brasil like people in Portugal are trying to be (people here are rooting for a Brasil - Portugal final, and the second team is always Brasil, it's sickening, they wouldn't do the same for us). But I don't like the French team's attitude; I think I said that before. Anyway, I'll be able to watch that one, I think it's gonna be aired uncodified, so hooray.
I don't like Schevchenko. He's like Totti. Got the fame, but doesn't make justice to it. Also, from the day he signed for AC Milan onwards he was a shadow on Inzaghi's glory. Took all of it. And I hate him for that. *pff*
So enough soccer
I had the weirdest dream today. I actually woke up tired from it.
Over here's not that different. With the slight difference that "we" are all fanatical about football. I'm not, though. But as an example: no one gives a damn about the national anthem or the notions of patriotism unless it's soccer related. What's the relation between it? One's portuguese, not footballese. It gets so insane. Every news block on TV is about football. Forget about Israel and Palestine, who cares when Portugal's team is in the quarter-finals? It gets me so mad that I'm not even bummed I'm not watching the whole Cup. My next door neighbour has stereo amps playing the anthem every single day, flags all over his windows and balcony and whenever there's a game on he turns on the radio and broadcasts the game to the entire street. Isn't that insane? But he doesn't get all patriotic if it isn't for football. And that's what annoys me.

People here would kill me if I said it, but there's an upside to Mexico losing, and that is people will come back and vote! By the way, I'm really scacred right now. I can't wait until next week until we know who's won. I bet you know nothing of mexican politics, I wouldn't expect you to... but oh goodness. Yeah. Oh, and I'm old enough to vote, which is awesome! ... half my friends are not. Yeah, some people are insane about it. There was this story in the paper last week about a construction worker who left for Germany after Mexico's first game. He took a 48 hour bus to Mexico City and paid for a ticket to... I think Berlin... with most of his money. The rest he's used to move around in the country. He's gonna come back and be broke, but hey, he was there. Oh, and he has no tickets for any game. That's what I call insane. Having flags out is NOTHING compared to that, you know? and pyro... I've always been insane about football. It's awesome. About the italy - usa; it seemed like they believed they were playing AMERICAN football, everyone was so aggressive and no good sportsmen. What I think the US is missing is heart. They're missing that burning desire to win that's behind so many of the good (and even the bad) teams. They play too technically. When you get fouled and it doesn't get marked, you don't lie there waiting for the ref to mark it. You stand up and you run after the ball. That's what you do. No games today. Next are on the 30th, which is Friday I think. Oh man, it's the first day since this started that there are no games. Which is not so bad as I have an interview for a job I'm not taking today... but still I'm going. I'm rooting for Ukraine in the Italy - Ukraine. I bought 12 different - colored permanent markers yesterday. And I'm off to have breakfast as I didn't have dinner yesterday. So I'm hungry.

Portugal plays on Saturday, that's all I know. I hope we get to the semi-finals, but my hopes aren't too high. It's England. We won twice, but they're really strong and maybe they'll want some sort of revenge. If their heart is set on it, they'll get it. And it's England.
Why aren't you taking the job? What is it?

I can't take it because the contracts are for 3 months at least, and I start school on August the first: after that date I could no longer make it to either the morning shift or the afternoon shift. So yeah, no job für mich. Excuse my tendency to throw in german words. But I need german practice, haven't had german in like a month. And I love that language. Bleh. Me and my language loves.
Yeah, it's England. But Wayne Rooney's still not 100%, Michael Owen is out, and so on... plus, they aren't as strong as they've been in past years... Portugal could get it. Go PT!

I have the tendency to throw English words in Portuguese conversation. I wish I could expand my range, but I forgot all German words that make sense and French is another issue.
How was Ukraine-Italy?

Ukraine - Italy is later! Right now is argentina - alemania... I mean, germany.
I usually hate throwing in words in other languages in my conversation, I only do the whole english - german thing. I hate it when people are speaking in spanish and throw in words in english. For some reason. I wouldn't mind it if they threw in words in Italian, as they do sometimes... Or in French... or even portuguese, but I only know like 2 people who speak portuguese.

Hey lilg. It's been a while, eh? and yeah, Italy's pissing me off as well. They didn't even deserve to win 3 - 0 yesterday! Perhaps a fair scoreboard would've been 2 - 1 or something.... the 2 being for Ukraine. And I insist, the italian game is so boring.... once they score, they all go down and defend. I don't like defense! I like a good, spontaneous and effective attack. Germany better kick their asses, true. Update: Portugal won!

I have to just poke my head in here and say: France beat Brazil, hurrah! ;D
And yeah, the thing about Italy v Australia ... If we weren't so civilized, I would have wanted to see some rioting.

I'm upset that Brazil lost. I was conflicted a lot of the time on who (whom?) to root for, but I always root for Brazil no matter what.... I like watching World Cup commercials.
In other news: I spent too much time in the sun today.
