Um, let's see... about 25 hours all up.
Worst of all, it was like, daytime the whole trip because I was going against the international date line. I flew from Melbourne to LA, and then LA to Chicago, and then Chicago to here. The flight from Melbourne to LA was like 17 hours, but my mum was great and surprised me with a business class ticket so at least I could recline and try to sleep some. But then they had all these movies so I didn't sleep at all (plus it was daytime all the way there anyway) and then I didn't sleep on the other flights either, so luckily when I arrived here it was nighttime because I totally just crashed and then when I woke up it was the next day, so I wasn't jetlagged either.

Sounds perfectly awful. I think after the first few hours I would begin to feel claustrophobic. I hope they didn't repeat any of the movies, because that's what they did last time I flew. I had two different flights and it was the same movie on both flights that I took on the same day.
I hope they were good movies because other wise you lost good sleeping time.
Have you adjusted to the time changes yet or are you just bumbling along trying to survive?

Hang on! D, you live that close and you've never brought your lovely family to visit me? Boo I want to meet you.
Squee... Koko is so close... Oh, I really want to run up there some Thursday and say hello, but Hart has classes. Bleah. Koko, do you have somewhere to go for the hols in November? You could come here, you know. I'm not sure whether we're going up to St. Nick & Dorothy's or whether we're throwing a dinner here at the shop with my mum, but you'd be welcome either place. We have a guest room now, too

Nah, Sands, they were good movies. I wasn't jetlagged at all, although the next day I slept in until about 11:30 but that was a sunday anyway...
You don't know how awesome that sounds En! (Um, hols in November = thanksgiving, right? I'm still trying to get a hang of the lingo!). I'm kind of in ths southwest corner of the hand, right near Indiana, and apparently it takes like 3-4 hours on a bus to get to Chicago (or 2.5 hours on a train), so a weekend or something is definitely doable! Is there any other way to get there besides to fly to Crapids? Anyway, we'll talk about this, okay? Now I'm really excited.

Congrats on the move Ko!! I bet it's exciting! Yeay! Now you're a little closer; not much, but hey I bet it doesn't take 24hrs to get to the US. I'm really glad everything went well for you.
Has anyone heard from Fan lately? A stupid hurricane's attacking the coasts again. The newspapers were the only means to stay in touch with the outside world these past few days for me.
And as you can see, I'm back from my holiday. It started out pretty horrible, because I had quite a high temperature when we went there, so I had to stay a couple of days at the place we rented, and I could barely eat, but we visited some really cool places. It's incredible how little I know of an island I visit every year which is only a kilometre or less from Malta. Bah. I searched high and low for Billy Connolly too(he lives there; a complete shock of disbelief for me when I found out some months ago) until yesterday I realised that there's his address online. Next year, I'm going over to the source.

I heard about the hurricane, but I haven't heard from Fan. She hasn't been around much so I might fire an email her way if I don't hear from her in the next few days. Usually she's really good with keeping us updated on how she is, even if she can't be online for long.
On an unrelated note, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TIGRESS!

Yeah, Ko, Thanksgiving is the last Thursday in November or something like that, and you should get like a five-day weekend then. There aren't trains through Iowa City, just buses, but I'll have to check and see if a train could take you closer in and then we could pick you up - or we could pick you up from Chicago Wednesday night and bring you back here, then take you back to Chitown at the end of the weekend? I'll keep thinking about it. But yeah, you could stay in the shop with us, and you could meet Lumers, and...
This last horrible hurricane hit the Gulf coast, Zeph, so I'm not as worried about Tasia this time round, but I'm still worried. Hurricane season lasts through November I think she should move to Iowa, where we have... urm... blizzards and tornadoes and a major tectonic fault line running through the east edge of the state.
I'm relieved that most of us live well away from the Katrina zone. My cousin's wife's parents lived in New Orleans and I guess they'll probably stay with my cousin's wife now (since my cousin is in Iraq and they just had a baby, she might not mind their company). But what's going to happen to all the people who didn't have family anywhere else? I wish I weren't so poor - I'd like to help

*nods*
I know, but I have a terribly limited knowledge of US geography. I was watching CNN when I realised that I was getting Florida's location confused with California's. I need to memorize the Atlas.
Don't feel bad about yourself En. You already are helping people in your own way, not just by providing your community with that wonderful shop of yours but you're also helping those who are in need of money, so there's nothing to be ashamed of. I was just reading the news that John Grisham and his wife have donated $5 million to aid the victims. Now for people like us who may not have the whooping sum of $5 million dollars, there's still the possibility to help in our own special way.

Hey thanks guys. I got a surprise dinner party which was amazing and went to see Avenue Q with three good friends. Sixteen is pretty cool...yknow I'm now also full two years here? It's crazy...
I have two friends in the Katrina area from Walnut Hill. One is in a shelter until the campus opens and one flew up here early and is in a hotel until the same time. I haven't heard from the friend in a shelter in sometime, it's worrying me.

I'm ok. Thanks so much for thinking of me. Katrina didn't touch me, but school's cancelled tomorrow because of this new tropical storm/hurricane off the coast. I think I'll be ok. Love you all very muchly.

Fan! I'm so glad you and your family are all right! Just like Ko, I can have a very sensitive Mrs. Weasley side. But it's great to hear from you again dear.
