I used to listen to the radio some time ago, I listened "Los 40 principales", a Spanish rado station, when I couldn't download music but now I'm starting to hate that station, 'cause they're putting a lot of... sh*t lately. Well, in fact I haven't listened to it since November, I think. I just love my cds too much to forget and betray them.

*almost spits apple and strawberry juice all over her screen* What? Coldplay is now a boy band? Er, question, Sparksy, but how do you define a boy band? Boy band (n): Band that entirely consists of boys.
that pretty much sums it up....I'm not saying its like the bsb or n*sync *shudders*, but it matches the criteria.

Just because Coldplay is comprised of all males doesn't make it a boy band. Word IQ has this to say on the subject:
Boy Band: a style of manufactured pop group featuring about between three and six young male singer/dancers, but normally five. Often, they evolve out of church choral groups, or are put together by producers who audition the groups for looks and dancing ability (and sometimes singing ability).
In most cases, their music is written, arranged, and produced by a producer who works with the band at all times and controls the group's sound - if necessary, to the point of hiring session singers to record guide vocals for each member of the group to sing individually (if the members can not harmonize together well). A typical boy band performance features elaborately choreographed dancing, with the members taking turns singing (or, sometimes, lip-syncing) to pre-recorded music.
However boybands, having started off singing other people's music, often do compose their own music, or a member composes music for the band later in their career.
Equally important to the group's commercial success is the group's image, carefully controlled by managing all aspects of the group's dress, promotional materials (which are supplied to teen magazines), and video clips. Typically, each member of the group will have some distinguishing feature and be portrayed as having a particular personality stereotype - such as "the baby", "the bad boy", "the nice boy" - whilst managing the portrayal of popular musicians is as old as popular music, the particular pigeonholing of boy band members is a defining characteristic of boy and girl bands.
The commercial success of specific boy bands does not tend to last long. As the fans (mostly preteen girls) of boy bands age, their musical tastes evolve and they seek something different. If success is sustained, often one or more members of the band will leave and seek a solo career (particularly if they have some songwriting ability), though few manage sustained solo success.
It goes on to list several boy bands. If you're really that interested, check out the link.
Coldplay is not a boy band. They were not "manufactured", they write their own songs, play their own music, and are in charge of their career. In fact, they're the antiboyband. Calling Coldplay a boy band is like saying Fiona Apple is a pop tart just because she's a young, attractive, female solo artist. Again, nothing could be further from the truth. If I hear Coldplay being called a boy band again, I just might have an aneurysm.
*takes a deep, calming breath*
All right, anyway. Did anyone catch the Grammys? Coldplay won Record of the Year for "Clocks" (woohoo), and dedicated their award to Johnny Cash and John Kerry, who ,in the words of Chris Martin, "hopefully will be the next president of the United States".

All right, this goes to show that I should really stop talking about what I don't know . I missed the Grammys, but hooray, anyway!

Hehe, even boy bands don't like calling themselves boy bands- the BSB claim that they're a *coughs* "male vocal group"
Hey, is Word IQ like, cynnical or what?

I guess I kind of meant it as like a band with boys, not a boy band, kinda like when you have friends that are boys, but not your boyfriends. Anyway, on to the next topic!

I love the Russian band Bi-2, and my favourite song is called "Polkovniku nikto ne pishet" or "Nobody writes to the Colonel" in English, by aforementioned band. It's such a sad song and the lyrics are awesome. Very poetic

A boyband would be like the group Blue. I've only just realised what a great group they are. I've got this girl in my class, she just loves them. She's got her table all filled with lyrics and I live Blue writing. ;D
Justin Timberlake has got some pretty good songs too.

Hm, well it's according to what tastes you have, or more like, what type of music you like to listen to: Pop, Rap, R&B, Rock....

Hmm, yeah Natz, I was going to ask the same as Herm- it depends on where you're expanding your music tastes from, because I don't want to recommend bands that you already like and stuff.
But yeah, if you like Coldplay, you might like stuff like REM and maybe Radiohead for starters...

Yes, let's hear more of what you like. But going off of Coldplay, I'd agree with KoNeko. And check out U2 as well. Travis, Straw, Starsailor, Sleeping at Last, and Remy Zero are also probably right up your alley.

REM's "E-bow The Letter" is wonderful. Just wonderful. So is "At My Most Beautiful", "Nightswimming", The Great Beyond.. I didn't want to mention the classic Losing My Religion, I know it's way overplayed but it's a really good song. Really good.
By the way, I think Coldplay is starters for Radiohead, not the other way round... I have both Coldplay's albums and I only have Ok Computer by Radiohead and I never quite got into it. Not yet. One of these days I'm setting my mind to do so...
.. speaking of which, remember when they were comparing Radiohead to Muse? Saying that Muse were trying to copy Radiohead and all that crap? That was so stupid... one thing has nothing to do with the other really. I actually prefer Muse... but the thing is that I know one or two Radiohead fans that act really harsh against Muse just because of that. Stupid. Really stupid.
So, I have a new passion: The Divine Comedy. Or Neil Hannon, since the band is now gone. He's got an album coming up on March 29th, I've heard the single, pretty good but... it's happy. I think that marriage always ruins their writing skills.. and musical skills, just look at Daniel Johns. He's so weird right now, I saw this wedding pic and was completely Anyway, back on The Divine Comedy... I don't know the year they started at, but I guess 199.. something. Their sound is not accessible at all, it's always way too weird and silly at some point, but the lyrics are awesome and Neil's voice... is just amazing. So yeah, I'm really into them right now... I'm not going to tell you all to have a try because I repeat, their sound is not accessible, it kinda has to grow on you, but for those of you who've heard so much crap all over the years and can distinguish good from bad music, why not give it a try?
And to think I had Ryan Adam's album the other day on my hand and went to put it back to buy Bored Of The Rings... not that I regret it... the book's been amusing me, but So Alive tends to bring tears to my eyes every now and then.
Now, a couple of questions:
* Has anyone heard The Vines's new single? I've heard it's being pretty much of a hit out there, but since both my Kazaa and Soulseek decided to die on me, I can't download it. So, is it any good?
* Ko, what about Daniel Johns new band? I read somewhere that they were releasing a single this month only in Australia and that it had been some sort of a success the first times it played. I guess the band is called The Dismissables. Not sure though. Once again, I haven't heard it because of Kazaa and Soulseek. I'm just curious to know how Daniel is like after Silverchair and after that stupid interview "I don't like to tour because it's not myself that's on stage, I have to act, and writing brings me closer to God".

It would take forever to list all my favourites, but I do like Eve 6, Green Day, Queen, Coldplay, Jewel, Lifehouse, some Michelle Branch, Vanessa Carlton, and lastly, only because he's not so much a singer as a comedian, Jeff Foxworthy.Oh, and George Carlin, but that's beside the point.
It took me forever to finally find out that Eve 6 were the gods who gifted my ears and a couple radio stations with the song Inside Out. I love that song. That, and Here's To The Night, but Inside Out is still my favourite Eve 6 song. I like Green Day's Good Riddance and about three other songs by them...for Queen, almost anything by them, but the top three are Bohemian Rhapsody, We Are The Champions, and Another One Bites The Dust. The only song I've ever heard by Lifehouse is Hanging By A Moment, but it's still a great song...I'll shut up now...
(cue cheering and clapping)
