When I last thought about which character I am, which must've been at least a year ago, I thought Ron, because in a lot of ways we were put into similar situations, and you learn and grow from your experiences, so it would make sense for us to be sort of similar after having gone through many of the same experiences. But I'm not like Ron.
I don't know if there is a character who is really like me... J.K. Rowling needs to develop those Hufflepuffs more. I've gotten a few suggestions of who I am, but I'm a person whose whole life is in the median. I'm not short, but I'm not tall. I'm not shy, but I'm not outgoing. I'm not plain, but I'm not exravagant. That's one of the most defining parts about me- I don't fit into any categories or I fit into all of them. So my character would have to be someone who's both old and young, both soft and harsh. How could I find someone to mirror me at all accurately?

I think it's perfectly fine not to find someone who mirrors you in the books. You're not a median (though I actually don't know you too well to know that.) you're just different from the characters that you have to choose from to say you're more like.
I used to think I was like Pansy Parkinson, but we don't know that much about her so I can't really say I'm like her. I can't seem to find a character that fits who I am, so all I can do is wait until the 6th and 7th books and see if there will be a new character that is like me.
Psst...My birhtday's tomorrow!

I wonder how many people do feel like there's one character that's just like them? One of the virtues of these books is that the characters aren't Joe Schmoe and Shirley Girley, with whom all good little boys and girls are supposed to identify; the characters in HP are flawed, confused, contradictory, and ultimately, people we know, not people we are supposed to be or to recognize.
I mean -- yeah, it's great if you do have a character you identify with. I was thrilled when Luna turned up, because at last! here was a character I didn't wish to be like or worry that I was, but a character who just happened to have some funny things in common with me (wearing weird stuff, saying odd things). But it's so much more fun to be able to think of people in the HP world as people. I would like very much to meet Lupin and talk to him about what teaching was like for him, and how he deals with discrimination. I'd like to hang out with Hermione and ask her about wizard versus Muggle pop culture. I don't want to be them. I might model myself after Minerva somewhat, but no differently than I might model myself after Mr. Forsythia, my favourite English teacher.
Am I making any sense? Like, it is cool, even -- maybe it's even good for us to look for ourselves in these characters, so that we see a side of ourselves -- you know, I always feel like there's a potential for a rewarding experience in finding a new way to look at yourself -- but maybe it's not necessary to find a match. Actors play people like them, or even very unlike them, all the time. People grow up with role models and don't become them, but do become like them. I guess I'm trying to say -- it's okay if there isn't One Character who's You as long as you have healthy, growth-y relationships with a few characters you appreciate.

*thinks about it* True, true..and I guess you noticed that most of the people who posted here, said that they resembled this character because of this, and that character because of that. Probably every person will find something that is something like his/her personality from the HP characters. And also, I think when JK was doing the houses, maybe I could be wrong, but she put the most most that people have in their personality. Courage, honour, ambition, knowledge....stuff like that. Nobody can really say, hey I'm just like Harry or like Malfoy, 'cause I don't think such a person would exist. Maybe he/she might, with a very big coincedense. I mean for myself, I'm a bit like Hermoine in the way with books(one thing for sure, I hate studying ), and probably like other charcters because of things I can't think of right now. ;D

I completely agree that it's perfectly fine not to be exactly like a character or even a lot like a character. One of the things I love about the Harry Potter books is that I can see myself (especially if I look at myself during different times of my life) in different characters ranging from the Harry to Voldemort. So when I read the books, since I can identify with so many characters, I really feel like I can understand their motives...which for me, is something I really look forward to being able to do while reading books. Nothing disappoints me more than when I can't identify with a character or mulitple characters in a book (however, there are of course exceptions )
