The final of Survivor All Stars is on. I'm a bit of a sucker for Survivor, because I like watching a bunch of grody people act out Lord of the Flies and be all primitive and stuff.
But that's just me. A lot of reality TV shows seem to run on highly controversial issues- what is your opinion on them? Do you have a favourite reality show? Or are they all just a bunch of garbage? And are they really even that "real"? (Haha, completely unrelated news, on Big Brother, there's a guy called Merlin...)

We have this new show. I'm not too sure but i think it came over from america called 'Fairy godfathers'
What are your views on it if you've seen it?
Reason reality shows are put on is because its easy viewing figures.
The trouble is the market has got kind of saturated with them now.

Haha, we've just got a new bunch this week, so we have There's something about Miriam (dating show where the female object of the contestants' affections was a transgendered person and born a male- apparently the contestants tried to stop the show from airing after they found out) and stuff like The Apprentice, which by far is the WORST one of the lot I've seen. Oh yeah, I want to see a bunch of yuppies suck up to Donald Trump.

Theres something about miriam. Now theres one i never got to see but apparently the bloke looked exactly like a woman. I won't tell you what happened when they found out. I'll leave that as a suprise.
The show 'fairy godfathers' is basically two gay fashion desingers who move in with the straight guys for a week and try and get them to be more caring and stuff.
Is that the one where a builder pretends to be a millonare Koneko?

i have to admit I am a sucker for reality tv... especially now that I'm in college, it seems like everyone watches it! I was a big fan of 'average joe'... but a bit disappointed with the ends of them! I also watched 'for love or money' last summer. Never could get into 'survivor' or 'the bachlor.' i think the worst one that is on right now is 'the swan' which of course i have watched a couple episodes... but it's just... disgusting...

Natz, is that "Joe Millionaire", and the guy had to pretend that he was this rich guy and everything and he was actually not? I get that confused with all the other shows with "Joe" in their names- Joe Schmo Show, Average Joe... etc...
Hey Panda, what's "The Swan"? That doesn't sound that gross, but then I have no idea what extent reality TV goes to anymore.

Yes thats the one Koneko. A very mean trick or a entertaining tv programme. I know they could come up with something more original Don't be fooled by the title. The ones with innocent titles end up the most gross. Channel four are now doing a programme called sex on tv. Oddly enough i really like fairy godfathers. a)no one gets covered in insects or made to eat them b) no trickery involved.

Awww, I kinda like watching to see how low people will go for money or fame. I'm pretty much a misanthrope as it is, so I'm not surprised at the amount of butt-kissing, double-crossing, bug-eating, mud-wrestling, self-humiliating people out there.

I can't stand reality TV shows of any sort. They're the reason I stopped watching TV. I just don't find any entertainment value in watching any of it. None of it is even close to reality from my perspective.

Reality TV is no more reality than "Bowling for Columbine" is a documentary. It's Selected Reality and is in essence, a crock of nicely presented crap.

I'm not big on reality tv shows except Colonial House (Manor House when it was on and those ones). It isn't really super popular, I don't think, but it comes on PBS (which I watch a lot of : and it's like, the people get transported for ten months to this whole other world. Colonial house they were colonists in Plymouth and the whole experience was to act like the colonists and have to deal what they had to do and the point of the thing is to see in they'll survive. I'm quite addicted to it and if I ever get the oppurtunity I would love to be on one of them. ((Koko, the Kenya song cracks me up but it always gets stuck in my head! Isn't the lion adorable?))

*grins* I was always wondering, if someone was on a show like Survivor or something, and went nuts, and -not unlike "Lord of the flies"- killed someone (oh, alright, maybe not killed, but seriously injured them), and then won the $1,000,000, do you think they would get prosecuted or something when they went back to the US? I mean, the show takes place in another country, and they could always use the milliion for legal fees.
That said, I wanted to go on Aussie Survivor and make a tool of myself, but they axed the show.
((Cal, I love the lion! Actually, if you go to the Badger thread in the Huff commons, we've got more stuff from the Weebls site there, and apparently some people made a live version of "Kenya" and sent it in... :)

On the off occassions I do watch other reality tv shows, I always wish the people would get really into it. I would rather find the entertainment in watching people really playing the game. I watched a few episodes of survivor and they were all like "But you shouldn't have done that because it's not nice" or something along those lines. It made me sort of angry because it is a game and in my mind, you gotta do what you gotta do to win the game (within reason, I'm not saying murder someone by lynching them with coconut shells or anything).
That's a shame. Well, I think the Colonial House thing is an international thing...or at least they usually have a good deal of british people on the show, perhaps you could go on it?

What the heck is "Colonial House"? Is that the name of a reality TV show?
Oh, guess what- Big Brother in Australia is going to have a *cough* "Surprise Celebrity Intruder"- which is, like, someone who comes into the house as a housemate sometime during the game and otherwise is treated like a housemate. And it's Miriam, from "There's something about Miriam".
Their ratings must be really plummeting.
