Yeah, I wouldn't doubt that the corpses in the water were changed into Inferi by the Death Eaters or something.
There are some girls sitting nearby me right now, and sorry, but I can't help but eavesdrop when people are talking about Harry Potter. Okay, they were saying that HBP was just "part one of book seven" in essence. Personally, I didn't like their take on the book. I thought this book did a very good job tying together the past books through the Pensieve memories while also leaving us with expectations for the last book. And seriously, when you're only one book away from the end of a series, you can't expect there to be a separate, conclusive plotline (and really, none of the books have been separate). But that doesn't mean that HBP doesn't have a plot; it was to reveal the secret of Voldemort and to show the development of several important characters.
What do you guys think? Was the only point to HBP to lead up to the conclusion of the series? Or does it have merits of its own?

Actually, yes Sphi, JK said that herself if I recall well, that HBP and the 7th book are both very much linked and seem to continue together. Not that the previous books didn't, but these last too are more linked in the plot.
Perhaps by plot they also mean that Who is the Half Blood Prince plot. I mean, we never actually got to know much of the HBP. Sure it's Snape, and he had a potions book, but why did he want to name himself that way? I think a bit more in depth of Snape's time at Hogwarts would have been great, also giving an in sight on the Marauders at the same time.

I don't know...I still prefer to think that HBP answers some questions on its own, rather than just leading up to the last book. I think all the books have tied the plot together, and it's only natural that the last ones do it in a more obvious way.
I agree that there wasn't much about the Marauders in this book; we barely got a glimpse of Lupin and I don't believe Pettigrew was mentioned at all. But we do know why Snape named himself the Half-Blood Prince. He, like Tom Riddle, wanted to show off his wizarding heritage, so he used his mother's name. And I know it's not much, but we have seen how Snape was treated during his Hogwarts years and how intense he was during his studies in OotP.

I have not been here in quite a while, but I had to come back. I finished reading THBP and no I feel I need to re-read it. I went to another site when trying to research who RAB could be. I did come up with a few questions:
1) I thought that James was killed before Lilly. When I re-read the Goblet of Fire, (Chapter 34) it appears that James was killed after Lilly. Who died first? This might have something to do with Harry being a horcrux. DId it backfire? Check out the ring that Dumbledore was wearing--sound familiar? 2) Doesn't Kreacher take some items (a locket that no one could open on OotP) and doesn't Mundung's bag fly open and Sirios's belongings fly out (HBP). Is it possible that he sold "Huffelpuff Horcrux" to Tom the bartender? 3) Isn't there a theory by Luna involving Stubby Boardman being Sirius Black? What if Boardman is actually Regulus Black (RAB)? 4) Was he pleading for him not to be killed or pleading to be killed?
Please let me know what you think.

I dont think that RAB is Serious's brother. Even Serious didn't think is brother was too sharp. How about this---What is Mr. Borgin's full name?
I now think it is Mr. Borgin. He knew where the locket was, he was in the business of these types of Artifacts. I still believe that Kreacher has the locket!

If you have one of the earlier copies of GOF, it will say that James came out before Lily, which is wrong. In later editions, such as mine, Lily comes out before James. So yes, James died before his wife.

What if Regulus Black was sent by Voldemort to place the horcrux in the basin on the island? Only one person would be needed. Did Mr. Malfoy know that Tom Riddle's Diary was actually a horcrux? I can't see that he would be so flippant with a piece of the soul of his master! I can't remember if Voldemort killed Regulus or another Death Eater. However, the reason for Regulus's death could be because he did not place the horcrux where he should have. Does this make sense? What if Borgin got Regulus Black to not deliver it to the cave? I still think RAB is Borgin!
Also, what if Lilly's parents were...squibs? Then Petunia's quote in the first book would make sense...they were so happy to have a witch in the family! Couldn't muggle born be mistaken for a squib?
What if Snape fancied Lilly, fell in love with her, lent her his Potions book (Lilly was so tallented--wasn't one of the jinxes in the book used on Snape--she must have double crossed him!), Snape got snubbed and after hearing the Prophecy went to Voldemort and made a deal. "I'll give you the Prophecy." He knew that the Prophecy involved the Potters! James gets wacked, leaving the door open for Snape to hook up with Lilly, but it was a no-go, so Voldemort wacked her too! A bit far fetched, but you never know!
What if Lilly's family were squibs and were somehow related to Voldemort........opens up even more possibilities. What color is Sythltherin's? Green...Green eyes...hmmmmmmm. Yes I know I am ranting.

In the book it was clearly stated Lucius didn't know the diary was a horcrux. I doubt Voldemort would have sent a Death Eater to do it. As Dumbledore said, Voldemort was a very independant person, and saw others at a lower level than he was. I doubt he would have entrusted something like that, to someone he saw inferior to his capability.
I think JK had specifically said Lily's parents were muggles.
I think Snape always had a fancy for Lily, even though some may think otherwise from the scene in OOTP.
And I highly doubt that amid his work to become the most powerful wizard in the world, Voldemort actually had time for girls.

I don't know about that he did call her mudblood but maybe it was his defense mechanism kicking in with the slytherin traits and was guarding himself against teasing.
i can't believe dumbledore is dead. I think that must have been the unbreakable vow.
Do you remember in the first book i think he said ' death is the next adventure'
I think that Hogwarts will close. I mean how can the staff trust one another after this?
The bit which quite annoyed me was the way that they kept referring to Rons irriatation with people kissing.
Slughorn reminded me a bit of mad eye moody. Choosing people who show promise ignoring the obvious evidence that harry wasn't doing it through inspiration.
What i don't get if snape knew who used the book why didn't he tell someone about it?
I'm still a bit confused about crabbe and goyle. I mean what were they doing to help malfoy?
I hate to say this but i think the horcrux could be Luna from Ravenclaw. Maybe that is why she is a bit forgetful. Or maybe its hidden in the glen that Rowena came from herself.

Well well well... I just finished it. And Rubes I saw your post so stop running! In topics:
* My mother was right when she said the HBP was Snape. She wins, you lose for never believing me when I suggested it. (You just knew I had to start off with this one, didn't you? )
* Harry and Ginny. So unbelievably cute. I kinda thought it would happen, because when you look at it, she's the only girl Harry knew well from their gang and Hogwarts, in general. He also knows Hermione and Luna, but Hermione has that weird thing going on with Ron, and Luna... you know. But it was cute that once she used to be attracted to him and her wish finally came true. Their last dialog kinda reminded me of Spiderman, though. Oh, and I don't think she's gonna give up that easily. She's getting stronger, and more like Fred and George as the story progresses. I think there's gonna be a big scene during Bill and Fleur's wedding, and he'll let her join him, Ron and Hermione on his quest for horcruxes.
* Phlegm. Hahaha.
* I still have mixed feelings about Dumbledore's death. I've never been into his character that much, my feelings for him - ironically - started growing on this particular book. I loved the trips to the Pensieve, I was thrilled to discover more about Voldemort's past - which made me feel kinda sympathetic towards him, actually, though not as much as to make me obsessed - and I thought his attitude towards Harry was really paternalistic and comforting. I loved when, in the end of The Cave chapter, Harry says "Don't worry" and Dumbledore replies "I won't. I'm with you." But I still have mixed feelings about his death and about what will happen afterwards. I finished half an hour ago. And even if Hogwarts closes, that is irrelevant since next book's action's gonna take place on a completely different set, we know that now.
* Ron and Lavender pissed me off. If he loves Hermione, why didn't he choose her to start snogging around? He's so imature. I like him a lot, but I do hope he grows up a little bit during the holidays. Perhaps with what happened to Bill he'll get a bit more experience and maturity.
* Malfoy. My heart was beating so fast when Dumbledore asked him to turn to the right side and he was considering it. You know how I always hoped and wished Malfoy would turn to the right side in some tragic event, and I couldn't believe this would be the occasion. But I think he will, eventually. Even Harry has mixed feelings about him, now. He really didn't want to kill Dumbledore. He just didn't want his family dead. I guess that's love, a way of showing love, too, a weapon Voldemort cannot destroy. And with a little persuasion, if a moment like this ever happens again, he will do something good. Like Rubes said, I do want someone to play Anakin/Darth Vader, but not Snape. Malfoy. He deserves a life away from darkness and blackmail and fear of loss and sadness. You saw how much of a scared little boy he was when Harry caught him crying. Malfoy's really surprised me, and I hope he doesn't go back to stupid in the next book. I seriously do.

Right so I complied a list of people who could be RAB.
-Bagman Sr. (Ludo Bagman's father) -Professor Binns? (It's out there...) - Alphard Black (Sirius' uncle who left him gold. Only possible if Alphard is his middle name..) - Regulus Black - Rudulf Brand (unlikely, he's a Quidditch player) - Mr. Borgin -Bruke (assuming the Bruke from Borgins & Brukes is alive...) -Andromeda Black (Tonks' mother)
I'm placing my money on a Black.
I want to believe that Snape murdered Dumbledore on Dumbledore's orders. On one hand he did murder him, but on the other hand he would not allow any of the Death Eeaters to kill Harry. That has to mean something right? Although he did say that Voldermort wanted to personally do off with Harry....

Maybe Snape made an Unbreakable Vow with Dumbledore, too, during that scene where Harry overheard the two of them talking. Maybe his Vow was to kill Dumbledore if it ever came to that. So in that final scene, when he was pleading to Snape, maybe it was because Dumbledore knew Snape would hesitate and knew that if he didn't do it, one of the Death Eaters would anyways. If that's the case, Snape had to do it, in order to stay alive and to continue being a spy.
This is, of course, assuming that Snape is actually on the good side.

okay i was reading at work and the last few chapters i cried. the entire time. he was suffering so badly whenhe had to drink the potion.
i really want to know what he was feeling just then. Like a dark secret he had.
I feel like hagrid... "Hogwarts without dumbledore?"
I think from the beginning with snape and narcissa, jk was trying to make his character bad, and accomplished this by making him the one to kill dumbledore.
but i dont think he was bad, he was practically cornered to make the vow and couldnt resist. he was doing his job and protecting draco.
still makes me angry..
and i wish harry and ginny stayed together. i loved the scene after the quidditch match. im such a sap.
as for people being horcruxes i guess it is possible if nagini is considered. we are animals too.. but you never know, i dont think it would be harry at all.

Interestingly, has the thought occured to anyone that Dumbledore may well return as a ghost.
Dumbledore, no doubt has travelled all over Hogwarts, the Burrow, 12 Grimmauld Place and even Privet Drive and of course probably most of Britain. So if he returns he will be almost the same resemblance (only...can ghosts cast spells?) of the Dumbledore that once lived.
However I also recall what Nick said about the "choice of whether to go on to the final death or to return to earth", and I wonder.......Dumbledore is not the kind of person who I would see doing something so...(I dunno what word would be suitable here).....well cheap. He would prefer to go on to death......
