I would have to agree with you, Willow and En, about Mulan. Even if people say it was supposed to be a money-maker (not sure if thats wat you were talking about), it was a very good movie. It made me cry AND laugh, which usually doesn't happen to me and it had some of the things we have to cope with at home, such as trying to be perfect, which, unfortunately, I have done, and not succeeded, as most people don't. Living with a couple of brothers myself, I sort of understood her, Mulan's, point of view when she cross-dressed and had to live with guys for a while. Its not easy let me tell you.

Oy. Anyone seen Holes? I just watched it for the first time... I liked how everything made no sense at the beginning, but then it all tied together and had reasons, and was a mystery in the middle.

I read the book a couple years ago. I don't remember much about it (except something to do with onions...), but I do know I really loved it for the same reason you like the movie. You don't really know what's going on for a long time, you know?

Yeah, onions and peaches. Onions representing the secret known to the descendants of the gypsy, and peaches being a favourite of the descendants of the farmer, and of the schoolteacher the gypsy's son loved. I just thought that was a scream, because onions and peaches kept coming up, one being a strong odor and a taste that can overwhelm, the other being a gentle scent with a sweet taste, and just as the two families kept coming into conflict til the end but then worked out, so the combination of onions and peaches turns out to be useful.
And I loved how it satirised the whole 'character' thing -- the juvenile justice system really is bass-ackwards in a lot of respects, and "Camp Greenlake" was such a perfect example of how not-productive 'reform' can be (especially when the people running it have ulterior motives... maybe not finding treasure, but definitely getting into public office ).

Hmmm...I have never read or seen Holes. Perhaps I should...
Has anyone seen the recent Disney movie...the one about the Bears...and a boy...and the moose? My cousin thinks he is a bear, and it's playing at a cheap theater and I'm thinking about picking him up and taking him...is it any good? Worth my what...four dollars?

Have any of you gang been following this? It's madness! A 43% withhold is even weirder than a fantasy film winning the Oscar for Best Picture
Do you think Eisner should quit? What do you think of Disney Corporation right now?

I did see Holes and it was a great little movie...I dragged my spouse along (and this isn*t his type of movie--he is more of a Clint Eastwood sort) and even he liked it. I would recommend it to anyone.

Do you think Eisner should quit? What do you think of Disney Corporation right now? I hadn't heard that En, and I don't know if Eisner should quit or not...I'm not sure if I know enough about Disney and such to make a guess about that. But I still think the same of the Disney Corporation, in that, it is a corporation and these things are going to happen whether they make small plastic keychains or childhood favourites. I guess what I'm saying is that for me the corp. is removed from Disney itself in my mind...there is the business part and then there is the childhood movies part...and the two...well they just don't mesh in my mind...

I've been reading up on that since I posted, and yeah, that crossed my mind as well, but see -- the argument is that Eisner is driving away the creative talent. He wants product, product, product, but he won't cut a good deal to keep Pixar, which is at the new frontier in animation? Is this why the quality of animation is going down? Is this why they can't seem to find writers who can write a classic? Is Eisner's determination to make Disney rival MSNBC or AOL-Time-Warner conflicting with the vision old Walt had of a haven for creative minds who want to do great things for our youth?

Ahhhh, yes. I did hear that...I haven't read up on it but it was my understanding that Disney would pay for half of the production costs but then wouldn't work with Pixar with making a story, doing animantion, and the such, so Pixar is pulling out with Disney, like with the two Toy Stories, Monsters Inc., and Finding Nemo...?

Except that Disney Corp won't let them take the rights to the Toy Story series.
But yeah, that's basically the gist... plus a lot of their individual creative people got driven out by the harsh commercialism and some of the less than savoury employment policies... and meanwhile, on another front, they've had a huge problem with pervs getting jobs at Disneyworld, which they've tried to hush up. It's a huge mess.

Don't ask me why, but I saw the new movie "Home on the Range" the other day (I guess I just felt like seeing a kids movie......wierd cravings I've been having lately, kinda like Cheerios). They made it sound like it would be a lot better on the commercials than it was. Some parts were funny, and then others reminded me of when I was younger and watching movies like "Dumbo" and "The Jungle Book". 2 Stars, I say.

Really? My friends loved it...I havnt seen Home on the Range yet, but they have(they went without me *pouts*) This is totally off the subject, and I dunno if you guys've talked about this one yet, but who here's seen Finding Nemo? That's my favourite movie ever...it's hilarious. I love the part "It's so pretty, I want to touch it" lol. People say I remind them of Dory...dunno if that's a good thing or a bad thing

Lol, I saw Finding Nemo. That's the one Disney movie that I can see repeatedly. The little girl I babysit for watches that EVERY TIME I go over there. It works well, though, when she falls asleep, cuz I just put her in her room and watch it until her parents come home ;D.
Hey, one of my friends reminds me of Dory, too. She has the freckles on the nose and everythign!

Hey, have you guys heard about Michael Moore (of "Bowling for Columbine" fame) and his whole debacle with Disney refusing to fund his next film (Farenheit 9/11)?
